Oxford 2024-2025 BCL/MSCs/MJUR/MPHIL/MLF

[Could you send me as well? I am applying for the MLF]Sure, DM me your email

Would be glad if you can share your ps. I am appying to multiplr schools. i need some guidance.

Welcome, BCL applicants for 2024-2025! Let us collaborate on this platform to ask questions, share experiences, and seek advice. Wishing you all good luck in your application journey!

To begin with - Just wanted to understand how should one begin with writing the first cut of the Personal Statement. What should I be focusing on? What should not be included? Basically the dos and donts for writing the Personal Statement.

Also, if someone could provide me with their Personal Statement, it would be really helpful! Thanks!

I can send you my PS, but it's not for the BCL

Hey! Do Oxford graduate programmes accept applications on a rolling basis, or are applications considered as a whole after the deadline? There isn't enough info on the websites. I am interested in applying for the MSc in Criminology and Criminal Justice and wasn't sure.

It's not rolling as far as I am aware. All applications are only considered after the posted deadline, which I believe is mid January.

Planning to submit 2 undergraduate essays in the 'written work' section of my application. Noticed a few errors that I could polish up, is it okay if we edit + enhance our undergrad essays before submitting to Oxford?

Hey guys, does anybody know if Oxford are very strict on the 2,000 word-count for the written sample? Might we be disqualified if over?

Hi! Does anyone know if footnotes and references are considered for the essay's word-count? Are there any preferences regarding citation styles?

I don't think they count references (I could be wrong). As for citation, I'm going with Oscola since that's what I'm used to and, funnily enough, is their house style. I'm sure they would be okay with any of the major styles (APA, Harvard, etc).

Yeah footnotes and references are not included. Regarding the citation style, any is fine as long as its use is consistent.

You dont need to compensate for that really, as long as you meet the requirements, you will be fine

Hi Miki, and all other 2024/25 OXFORD applicants! i am from Kenya applying for the Mphil in law. I have not seen a request for personal statement from my side, does anyone suggest i just upload it? also, what topics are the best for the written work? should in write on something related to my research proposals?
Thanks in advance !
Hey guys,

I’m a prospective applicant for next year’s BCL and MLF. From the student profiles, I saw that several students were able to say their ranking within their cohort. Staying in the UK in my undergrad, my uni doesn’t have that info. What can I do to compensate for that? Do any of u guys have this issue too?

Hi

I'm about to graduate from law school in my country. My law school is ranked as one of best in the country and I'll be graduating w first class Hons (but I'm not top of my class). In addition to this, I have good extra curriculars, great references, and long term research experience. I am a Rhodes Scholar elect.

My university does not issue any ranks as such, although there are informal ones calculated by students.
What are my chances for the BCL? I'm worried not being top of the class will come in the way.

The profiles online all seem to suggest admits are top 1% in their LLB classes. Since my uni does not issue ranks, I have no way to show this. My referees do rank me quite high in their personal opinion, but im not sure if that is of help?

Did they ask for a statement of purpose or anything similar?

Regarding the essay, I think for the MPhil any topic is fine as long as it's able to showcase your academic abilities (research, writing, analysis (sic!)).

You dont need to compensate for that really, as long as you meet the requirements, you will be fine

Dont worry about this; you only have no chances of getting in if you dont apply. The Uni is aware not all univerities issue rankings.

Hi Miki and all other 2024/25 applicants, I also have the same query as Omondimphil. The course page for MPhil in Law lists supporting documents to include CV, Research Proposal and Written Work only. The word limit for the research proposal is 600 words but in the explanation it states that it will be assessed for reasons for applying in addition to analysing the research proposal. So, I'm not sure whether a separate statement of purpose is needed, should I just upload it with the research proposal?

Hi,

I've applied to the MSc Criminology program. For my second written work, I have submitted an essay that I co-authored with w two other people. I of-course removed their parts, and provided appropriate context. The essay proposed 3 propositions, with each of us writing one so it is still easy to follow.

I understand co-authored work is permitted, but I am a bit worried that the fact that it is w. 2 other people will be held against me. Any advice? That said, I submitted the piece because it was some of my best writing, and I quite like the argument and the final result.

I presume I still have time to replace it given the deadline is yet to pass and the self service portal allows replacing docs. So any suggestions are welcome.

I see. Perhaps the research proposal should also include some elements of a personal statement since they do not ask for a separate PS specifically. For example, I am interested in the intersection of public law and EU law because I have studies these topics at undergraduate level. I am interested in the MPhil because this and that...I am interested in the university because of this and that etc. Then you can link what you've just said about the course with your proposal.
