I'm in my final year and wish to do an LLM in either England or Ireland. I've heard that either Oxford or Cambridge are pretty elite universities, but is TCD? I'm not interested in specialising, I just know there are no jobs out there and I want to better my chances in the coming years by doing a masters....
Oxbridge better than TCD?

With the new Con-Lib coalition government any employment and migration opportunities for people from outside of the EU will be severely restricted and a cap on non-EU migrants will be introduced soon. Hence, if you are from a non-EU country Ireland might be a better bet. If you are from the EU, then Oxbridge. However, why do not you consider places like Switzerland - better jobs opportunities and lower taxes?

I dont know where youre in the world, but I dont think comparing TCD with Oxbridge is reasonable. TCD is of course a great university but its reputation, as far as I know, is rather local. So if you arent in Ireland, maybe youd be better off at some other university in the UK (like one of the UoL colleges or Edinburgh) than in TCD. And if you indeed live in Ireland, doing an LLM round there wouldnt add much to your CV in my humble opinion the LLM is a chance to live abroad and have an international experience, so getting an LLM in the place youve lived your entire life may not be such a good idea just my opinion though.

Thanks for the comments! I'm in Ireland but have lived away last year and thought it was great but financially I wouldn't like to go abroad although if push comes to shove I'd have to.
Would it really make a difference to my career options having a masters from another university, however prestigious, even if I want to become a solicitor and base myself in Ireland?? If no, then wouldn't TCD be a better option?
And are masters important to have to better your career chances??

I have just finished an undergraduate in TCD, and while it is a great college, this is based largely on its undergraduate programme, and the PhD. The LL.M. has been improving, but is still nowhere near the same standard as the Cambridge LLM or Oxford BCL. In my opinion, it's a better idea to go away for your LLM.
