Hi everyone! Any information about law schools in Nottingham, Essex and Kent? Should I consider applying to them or not?

Why do you particularly want to go to those places?

I think Nottingham and Essex are not too bad - but can't tell you from personal experience (just rankings). I applied for both of them--
which programme do you consider?

I am going to apply to several universities and I noticed that Essex and Nottingham are doing good with the rankings. I am particularly interested in Commercial Law, would you not recemmend these universities? A friend of mine is postgraduate student at Kent and she is quite satisfied. Still, I would like to know your opinions too!

Hi Thessaloniki,
Sorry there are no other comments... Commercial Law is my choice as well, so I couldn't say that Nottingham or Essex wouldn't be good.
Which ranking did you use to support your decision?
The problem is that I never found a ranking especially for a Commercial Law programme.
Good luck, reinhard

Hi Reinhard! Nice to hear fron you again!
I have the list from Times, the Guardian and of course llm-guide, but still, I can't say that there aren't many differences between them. For example, Essex appears 6th on the Guardian's list, but a bit below in Times. And of course there are also other universities such as that of Exeter or of East Angla which i have no idea whether they are good or not.
A friend of mine has told me that there must be a ranking, specific for commercial programs, so I will check t and I will let you know. I think it is via British Counsil. You will hear from me soon! Have a nice day!

Hi Thessaloniki!
Do you know already more about the commercial law ranking?
It seems we have pretty much the same programmes in our minds :-)

Hi reinhard!
Sorry but my friend can't remember where she had found the commercial law ranking! I have spent hours surfing in Internet but couldn't find it... :-(
We must have applied to the same universities, so who knows, maybe we will get to be classmates !!
Have a nice evening! If I have any news I will let you know!

Hi Thessaloniki!
It's a shame that there is no special ranking to find; I found one for the US, but that isn't helpful for the UK. I expect to find one when I already decided where to go :-)
At which universities did you apply? The post of Kyle about Aberdeen caused some earthquakes in my personal ranking :-)
Would be fun to already know someone, who knows, maybe you are right and we'll land at the same university; more probable if you prefer durham or aberdeen, which are my favourites at the moment.
cheers, reinhard

Hi Reinhard!
I did read about Aberdeen and it sure was wonderful news!
But we all should bear in mind that Aberdeen must be a difficult place to live. As far as I know in the first semester it never goes dark and in the second you hardly see the sun... Since a friend of mine has also applied to the same universities as I did, I really hope that if I go to Aberdeen, at least my friend will come with me! And you as well!
Where are you from? Do you think that you will easily adjust to the climate and life of Aberdeen?
Good luck with our applications!

Hi Thessaloniki!
Nice to hear from you again. You are right about the news. It's great to get the information from people who studied there.
I never thought about the difficulty to live in Aberdeen; I guess you are Greek, unless your name is not just a fake, so the United Kingdom in general has a very different climate; but men are able to adjust, and it's just for a year...
I wasn't aware of the fact that it would be so high up in the north, and would have rather expected the summer semester to be the bright one.
I'm from Austria, so I'm used to the cold, but also to sunny weather and would therefore also have to adjust quite a little bit, since I like the sun -- However you are right, company may help, but I'm sure there are plenty of people who have the same problems, and you have to find the right decision for you!
Do you already have some offerts?
Cu, reinhard

Hi R!
You are right that it is only for one year so I shouldn't mind. But yes, I am Greek, and believe me the weather has tremendous effect on my mood! Imagine that now we have 23 C, the sun is shinning, everyone is out for coffee by the sea, the spring is already here!
I sent my application forms last week so it is a bit early for me. What about you? How long have you been waiting? Did you have any offers yet?

Hi Thessa,
As I told you: I like the sun and would miss it, of course it's colder there, but apparently not as rainy as elsewhere, due to the mountains. Sounds great having 23C and enjoying the sea - Thessaloniki is a lovely city with nice cafe's :-)
Imagine -3C and skiing...
Did you also apply online? I applied online in December and sent the missing documents end of january. By now I have 3 (informal) offerts, but none from Durham or Aberdeen.
Exeter is among them, which is in the South of England. Would be warmer than Aberdeen, but Exeter is not that good in the rankings and I do not expect to have a year of holidays.
Well I can't answer you how long it will take, but I would guess between 14 days (very fast) and 6 weeks.
Wish you a nice week-end,
cu r

Hi R!
You won't believe it but today it is snowing...!!!
What is going on with the weather??!!
Have you actually been in Thessaloniki? You sound like you know my city too well
I didn't apply online, I sent them a hard copy and all the documents by mail. Is there any difference on how quick they will answer? I know about Exeter, it was among my choices but I didn't apply there. I sent applications to Nottingham, Essex, Manchester, Edinburgh, Kent, Cardiff, Durham, Queen Mary, Bristol and Aberdeen.. That's all I think! What about you?

Hi Thessa,
Unbelievable your weather? Where have the 20 C gone? Where is spring now?? I hope you can enjoy the snow, but don't believe it's still there?
You discovered my Thessaloniki experience! In summer 2003 I've visited Greece (Interrail) and of course I had to see Thessaloniki. What a nice city! We also went to the beach (in Chalkidiki) and met some nice greek people. But I especially remember the nice cafés at the beach promenade and the gyros :-)
I don't think that it will make a big difference whether you applied online or not: I just liked it better, but the decision must be based on the grades and the letters of recommandation. Thus they have to wait for them before they can make a decision.
My universities are: Nottingham, Manchester, Durham, Birmingham, Aberdeen, Exeter, Edinburgh, Strathclyde, Sussex. I also wanted to apply for Leicester and Bristol, but won't do so.
But we have some universities in common! Now we'll have to wait and see which offers we get :-)

Hi thessa!
I'm fine, thanks. I hope you too? Well it's been a long time since your last time in Vienna - you should come more often... I hope at least your memories are positive.
Did you already hear anything from your universities?
I have now most of them - including Aberdeen; now I wait for a official offer from Durham, than I'll have to decide.
But it's really difficult and I wonder what might be a good decision. How's your personal university ranking at the moment?
Cheers from sunny austria, r

Hi R!
Nice to hear from you again!
I have an offer from Aberdeen too, Manchester and I am also waiting for an official offer from Durham! Not bad eh? Nottingham has made a conditional offer but I think I am going to reject it. You see, they require 6.5 IELTS, which is my grade too, but they need a 7 in the Writing paper and I have 6. I have answered them that after the reassessment of my IELTS results, the Speaking has changed and now my overall is 7! Well, if the condition remains after that I am definetely going to reject them! Wouldn't you?

Hi, guys, I am also in Nottingham and UCL, both are conditional offers (I did not take IELTS but TOEFL and I have 4.5 for my essay instead of 5.0). I've also got an e-mail from Durham, saying that the law faculty recommends me for admission but the final decision belongs to the university. What does it mean? Can my application be rejected by the university? Have you applied to any scholarships at these universities or looked for loans? Thanks

Hi Thessa!
Seems you have some good news! Gratulations for your Aberdeen offer. My offer of Nottingham is as well conditional - they want the original TOEFL certificat. No problem, but I don't see why I should prefer Nottingham, so I think I'll reject there offer - that would be my recommendation for you too.
Well today I received the offer of Durham, so now I really have to decide, it will be between Durham and Aberdeen I think. I guess there is no point in waiting, so I think I'll decide in a week or so.
hope to hear your decision,
r
