Hello Everyone,
I just came across this gem of a community. I wish I had known about it before I embarked on my LLM!
I am an international student and I recently completed my LLM in International Commercial Law and I graduated with a Distinction.
Is there any way of gaining employment based on these qualifications? What opportunities are available to me? Do I need to qualify as either a solicitor or barrister? I hear I can work as a Paralegal?
What is the best way to go about getting at least some legal experience? I don't have any legal work experience in the UK at all!
I also have an LLB from a UK university.
I would appreciate any insight from anyone. Or share any experiences you might have had while looking for employment as an LLM graduate.
Next step for LLM Graduate?

Pray. Then, get creative for the short-term. It's tough out there.

I realise it's tough out there but what employment in the legal industry can an LLM graduate expect? That is what I wanted know.

I would say slightly higher than any other candidates, provided that you had a 2:1 LLB from a good university in hand : that is the general requirement to have a chance. At least, you can apply. But the perspectives are not overwhelmingly better. I think an LLM is good on the plus-side only if you have a good LLB, and that what counts most for the law firms (surprisingly, in my view).
You may work as a paralegal, but, most of the time, that means that you have at least already completed the Legal Practice Course (and without any sponsor, that may be expensive, especially after an LLM). And i've heard that the prospects are not much better as a parelagal than for the others.
Good luck, everyone needs some :)
