Meeting the conditions

Hi all, I just received the hardcopy offer material by post and noticed something about meeting the financial conditions. Page 10 of the offer booklet leads me to think that if we send in our financial undertaking form early, it won't jeapordise our scholarship position. On the other hand, page 14 of the booklet (under "data protection") leads me to think that if we supply the fin undertaking form, the Cambridge Trusts etc will have access to it in order to determine our scholarship "needs". Given that we are compelled to return the signed fin undertaking by July 31, and that by that stage we may still have not been given funding confirmation, we may be left in the position of having to send in the form saying we can "foot the bill" ourselves even if we can't and if we are relying on funding support, with no way of communicating to the BGS that we don't want to prejudice our scholarship applications. The only solution to the problem seems to be that funding decisions will have to be made in June-July latest, but that is not the case as far s the booklet tells me, which says that funding decisions can be made as late as August September.

Am I expecting too much to hope that by sending in the fin undertaking form I will not be shooting myself in the foot?

Hi jz1. I just checked through the booklet (that I got online, am yet to receive the hard copy stuff - where are you located?) and you seem to be correct about that issue. I have heard from some people in previous years that with law, cambridge trusts often don't announce their decisions until august/september (ie after you have already had to formally accept, hence needing the financial guarantee form) so if that is the case, they can't really take funding information into account as all the people who have accepted will have had to say they can fund it. Perhaps make it clear you will need to get a loan without funding but that you can get the loan?

Thanks for that sydneycat. I'm located in Sydney, Australia (and I'm guessing you are too??). As for your suggestion, I had actually thought to say the exact same thing - that while I can give you an undertaking, it's with borrowed funds, so, in effect, "Cambridge, please don't think that I'm some wealthy aristocrat who can easily squander $40,000".
