I have a conditional offer at KCL.
There are many good accomodations at KCL and LLMs do get some. But isn't it a bit too early given that applications are asked for only towards March-end ?

What courses do you intend to take up?
Posted Jan 17, 2009 13:20
well I'm a bit confused between a tailored llm and a specialist llm. If i'm to go with a specialist one i would go for the International Finance (which in fact contain most of the modules I want), But I wanted to take the commercial banking module with Prof Hooley as well (which is not a part of the Int Finance program. so i haven't decided yet.
what do you intend to take up? also how many modules should we choose for a complete llm program.
thx

I intend to take taxation subjects but not the specialist tax llm. They are not running tax policy this year so thats a bit of a dampner. I wouls think about Competition law with prof. dalhuesin (forgive me for the spellings) but he's too choosy so really don't know if I would have the chance to take that subject. And the module of corporate finance.
My aim ultimate is to end up doing comparative international tax structures and follow that into my PhD.
One can chose 4 full modules i.e.one can take 8 half modules if one can find them.
thanks to the blessed souls.

Am I right to think that in Finance , KCL is one of the best worldwide?
Posted Jan 18, 2009 23:49
Congratulations on your acceptances, everybody. Now that the hard part is over, I guess we just have to pick our classes and sign up for housing. Any idea about how or when those things are done?
As far as King's international reputation is concerned, I'd say it's one of the best in finance, law, and medicine--or at least those are the main things we know it for in the US.
Looking forward to corresponding with everybody over the next few months!

I also received an offer from Kings. I already accepted it. I'll be focusing on competition courses, but I think I'll take the tailored llm path.
Regarding the selection of modules; you have to log into the status tracker, once you have a Stage 5, it allows you to pre-select the courses you want to take. About housing, you can apply up to June (don't know the exact date).

I had to make the same choice between schools, Sharika, and, for me at least, King's came out on top. As people have posted on other threads, there really does not seem to be a lot of difference between the two institutions in terms of academic quality. Both are University of London, both are ranked in the British top 5 and global top 25, both have outstanding professors in various areas, and--particularly if you're an international student--both will cost you about the same. In a lot of ways the choice probably comes down to a personal esoteric valuation since by most objective measures that I've been able to find the two schools are nearly identical. Granted, one school may be better in a particular specialization than the other, but whichever school you choose will undoubtedly be fine.

Thankyou that was very helpful. Are you done with your course? How is recruitment from Kings. As you see I'll have to take a loan to fund my LLM and its working out to be quite expensive To add to this London is very expensive. So im hoping that once i graduate I'll be able to pay it off soon.
What is it about Kings that made you choose it over UCL?

To CR1: I'm applying for International Business Law. You're doing International Finance, right?
To Sharika: As far as what made me choose King's over UCL, it really came down to a conversation I had with one of my professors. He had received his LL.M. from King's and recommended their program very highly. Of course, I also met a professor from UCL last year who said the same about his institution, so both schools were well-regarded in my mind before the time came to make a decision. There was nothing bad about UCL as far as I was concerned--King's just seemed like a better fit for me.

Bliss, it should not take that long. Mine (via e-mail) took about one week or so after they received the DHL package with the documents they requested.
