I wish you very good luck with your Edi application. I did my LLM in international law at Edi and am now writing my PhD here. I am on of the convenors for the International Law Discussion group which is for students to introduce them to international law topics outwith the classroom. I hope you are able to join us here in 2009!

Hi! I just saw on the website of Ed that the on-line application was not yet active... how did you apply?
Posted Nov 04, 2008 06:47
I did it by post because I did not wanted to waste any time. I wanted to use the online application but I was afraid I may lose some valuable time. I am an overseas student and I think early applications have more chance than late applications. That's my opinion but maybe I'm wrong.
Cheers :)

I just received today an unconditional offer from the University of Edinburgh to attend the LLM International Law starting September 14, 2009. I m waiting for an answer from 3 other universities (UCL, LSE and Queen Mary). I think I like UCL better but if they dont accept me Ill be glad to attend Edinburgh.
Good luck to the rest of you!

I applied to 5 unis just in case! Specially because the universities I applied are top universities and I knew it would a tough competition.
I cannot tell you exactly if its difficult but well i had good grades but not like extremely excellent. I have work experience and also volunteering experience. I got 7.5 at IELTS and Im also a certified translator in english/french/spanish since the year 2004. I also did the Toles exam (Test of legal english skills) and scored red. So i think maybe this helped me more than my actual grades, in my opinion. Besides I am an overseas student and maybe me paying a tuition of over 12,000 also convinced them,,i really dont know, but just give it a try,,you never know,,i think it also depends on your luck sometimes,,its a combination of different factors (grades, qualifications, luck etc).

Actually, yes i was trying to calm you down hehe but hey dont worry give it a try, you never know. Are your grades good??

thanks:)
thats what im trying to find out...i need to understand what is equivalent in my country for UK 2:1
i dont think my grades are exxtremely good, but they are not bad at all, but sometimes i had bad luck and my strategy never was to repeat just to get better grade after i once passed an exam, maybe mistake if im looking at it right now..
but who knows, maybe i ll be lucky and maybe not...
im little bit deceived at the moment...
wish me luck, im going to submit it next week as soon as i got original refernce letter from my teacher...
and one more question?i want to take IELTS exam in March, if they decide to accept me conditionally as soon as i give them english certificate will they accept me or it is also possible they will reject me?

If they gave you a conditional offer they should accept you if you meet the ielts requirements afterwards. I think they give like two months for you to fullfil their requirements.

Just received an unconditional offer for the LLM by research in the history and philosophy of law from Edinburgh.
I like the program but am concerned about Edinburgh's ranking vis a vis UCL and KCL.
Can anyone comment on
(i) Edinburgh's standing especially vis a vis Schools like UCL and KCL, is there a big difference in prestige?
(ii) the facilities available in Edinburgh. How's the law school and particularly the library. Is the library well-stocked?
Thanks

Edinburgh is a top UK law school and, in the subject you talk about, one of the best places worldwide. Are you intending to focus on the history or theory side of things?! I'm considering applying for the same course but haven't put together my research proposal yet.

I applied in mid of Jan.. Am i late for Edinburgh?
Posted Jan 22, 2009 10:40
Not at all, its not the same as Oxbridge and some of the UOL. I'd say people still have about 8-10 weeks or so for Edinburgh.

Hi S_Dimelow,
I'm interested in the theoretical side of law, especially with regards to corrective justice. MY heart lies with legal theory, but the pragmatic side of me is siding towards going to UCL which has a better reputation. Not sure which i will choose.

The library's fine and the Uni is just round the corner from the Scottish library which is the Scottish copyright library (i.e. same function as British library). I think p/g students can use the facilities there though presumably Edinburgh postgrads could tell you more. Pack your thermal underwear though; Edinburgh is beautiful but cold.
