Go for Brian Creamer House or the postgrad house next door to it. It's the cheapest central halls - about 20 minute walk from the Strand. Basic but comfortable. I wouldn't bother with Stamford St or Great Dover St. They may have en suite toilets, but the rooms are soulless little boxes and cost a fortune.
