JOINING LSE 2010-11 LLM

jim

Hi everyone,

I've just received a conditional offer from LSE and I'm thrilled. I also got an offer from UCL, so don't know yet which one I will choose. Any tips? I'm from Brazil, where are you guys from?

Cheers.

Marina

Hello Marina. I 've also got offers from both universities but I think LSE's reputation is a little better than UCL's. Moreover, having sent my applications back in November, I recieved a UCL offer in early January while an LSE offer in mid-March (after nine weeks on the waing list). I believe that this shows that the level of LSE applicants (and students as a result) is a bit higher than the one of UCL applicants. Both of course are considered very good unis, maybe the best choices in th UK after Cambridge and Oxford.

Hi Marina, congratulations on your offer! Having been rejected by LSE and accepted to UCL, I should come here and stand up for UCL and try to convince you to join me and many others in September. But thats not why Im here. I know youre in Brazil (like me) and if I were you Id go to LSE. Dont get me wrong, Im thrilled that Im off to UCL in September and Im confident that its a great university with a arse-kicking law school but reputationwise (at least in Brazil) LSE would be the smatter choice.

On the quality of students point - I was accepted at LSE but rejected at UCL, so not sure you can distinguish on that ground! If I were you I would think carefully about exactly what you intend to do with your LLM and choose the university with the best specific courses of study. Difficult I know, given that the course lists have yet to be posted - but if there are specific units you want to do I'd be inclined to ring the faculty and ask.

I agree with beicon. I did not apply to UCL, but was accepted to LSE, and I think it has a great reputation here in Brazil. Where did you graduate?

the UCL and LSE law faculties are, literally, neck and neck. they're both fantastic departments, and if I were you my choice would largely depend on which individual modules I was most keen on, as well as the reputation of the specific lecturers who teach them.

in any case you can't go wrong!

to all the future lse llm students: i shall see you all too in the fall. does anyone have any idea when next year's module list is released?

Hey, guys! I've just accepted my offer to the 2010-11 programme. How cool is that!

Well I see there are some Brazilians on this list. One more for the team, then! My name is Danilo and I graduated at USP. Now I live in Brasilia, working at the Central Bank's Legal Department.

Looking forward to see you all there!

Bye!

Hi Danilo,
I have just accepted my offer, too.
We are at the same city, and I am also a civil servant. Can't wait to go to London!
