International Law at Soas Edinburgh Nottingham or Aberdeen

Davide

I have applied for an LLM in International Law in Edinburgh and Nottingham and I received an offer.
I am still waiting for Aberdeen (LLM International Law as well) and I received an offer from SOAS (MA International Law).
Considering that for Law the university that seems to perform better ( with those rankings) is Nottingham, do you have any advice?
Many friends from the UK reccomend me the Soas or Edinburgh but i am afraid mostly because of the cities of London or Edinburgh itself ( I am mostly interested at the universities not the beauty of the cities)
Thank you so much for your help!

Given the choice between Edinburgh, Notts, SOAS and Aberdeen, I'd opt for Edinburgh. I consistently hear good feedback about Edinburgh law school.

Hi, I also had somehow the same "problem". I was admitted to both Edinburgh, LLM International Law, and SOAS, MA International Law. I am not exactly a person who believes only in rankings because they are kind of temporal, you know. But my Law professor (former German judge in the ECHR), who wrote me a recommendation for both schools advised me to study at Edinburgh because it is the better university.
I hope that helps :)

My conclusion shall be the same as Maya. But, I would like to add one aspect of Edinburgh that made it made stand out, particularly when compared to Nottingham (which I too got an offer from). At Edinburgh you have the chance to tailor your curriuclum in a manner emphasizing depth, that is you can acquire the necessary credits by way of taking three full year courses. On the other hand, at Nottingham an student on average takes about 8 courses during the academic year. I have huge doubts as to how any of those students will be able to gain an in depth knowledge of the subject courses they take. This was one significant factor that made me lean towards Edinburgh. I thought I would share this with you as I, like Maya, was also initially undecided as to which school to choose from.

Also, with respect to SOAS; I feel it is important to take into consideration how an LLM degree is a much more valid and respected degree than an MA in Law.

I hope this helps and I wish you all the best!!

Albeit, my nowlege of international law is limited, but if you don't apply to Cambridge, I would say Edinburgh is the next best place to study the subject at postgraduate level. Just have a look at the academics available at both schools and I'd think you'd recognise their eminence.

Hey,
I would say aberdeen.
Especially if you wanna above all high quality of living.
Aberdeen law school is of great reputation, at the top of UK rankings: best scottish uni and not far from the London sisters ;)
Moreover, international studies and oil and gas are great here.

I did my LLM in International Law at Edinburgh and I can highly suggest it. The course offerings grow each year and the programme is very dynamic. Every type of international topic from public to private is offered so there shouldn't be a problem tailoring the programme to your specific interests.
If you are worried about living in the city, you needn't worry about Edinburgh. It is actually a very small city, despite the population. It is very easy to navigate and if you live on campus, you could actually go through your LLM having never gone further than 10 minutes from Old College.
I liked it so much in fact that I returned to write my PhD here after several years of law practice and actually chose it over Cambridge and SOAS. (I had also studied at Cambridge but not SOAS).
Best of luck!
