European Studies - Essex or Hertfordshire?

Hi everyone!
I have received offers from University of Essex and University of Hertfordshire as well, both European Studies course.
I have a very hard time to decide though. Hertforshire is not ranked very well but it's facilities are very new and modern and it seems like university which is improving every year.
Essex would be my first choice, but I have read some bad opinions about it and I got scared.
I have heard some good and also bad things about both them. Please, help. I appreciate any info about studying, courses, living, accomodation, people, teachers, etc.
Thanks a ton

Essex is ranked No.9 in the UK on the latest government research rankings. Hertfordshire is very definitely not. What else do you need to know?

Yes, I know that Essex is ranked ninth for research and teaching... but in overall ranking it is placed lower (#40 I think) It is confusing. I just wonder what reputation it has among the potential employers.
Thanks for your opinions, I appreciate it. I am very probably going to accept my place at Essex very soon. If you know any people who study there let me know what they think, if they are satisfied.
Thanks again. :)

Also check this: http://www.unistats.com/retrieveColleges_en.do
You'll see that for law student satisfaction, Essex ranks alongside LSE, above Edinburgh, Durham, City - but these stats might also reveal how critical/grudging/unsatisfiable bright students can be!
