What does ELQ fees mean btw? The fees for the programme can be found on the LL.M. page and were GPS 8900. Would ELQ be less or more? My Kings offer also mentions ELQ fees.

I didnt know either of these ELQ fees and i did some research. They mean equivalent or lower qualifications fees that apply if the program that you are applying for represents an equivalent or lower qualification than the one you already have. For LLM this means that if you have graduated another LLM (which is my case and i assume is yours too) they will consider you in this ELQ category because you already have a postgraduate degree. The problem is that the fees are higher. Sometimes considerably higher than normal fees. I am Eu student and i initially tought that the LLM will be around £ 8,900 more or less depending on the increase this year. Well....its not true...for us it might be even higher cos of this ELQ category where we are included.
I have sent them a message asking for the last year ELQ fee so i can make an estimation of this year.
They havent decided upon fees for this year and i cannot find on the website this category of ELQ fees for last year.
thanks</blockquote>

That doesn't sound good. I am a fully German qualified lawyer and already have a German PhD, but not an LL.M.
This would suck, although Kings is not my first choice.

Well your qualification is higher or at least equal to the one offered by an LLM that is why you are in ELQ category. I am Romanian qualified lawyer and i have a LLM in Ro plus some postgrad studies in Belgium.
I know this sucks and i think its absurd, especially because they do not mention on their website of such fee. I tought there were only two types of fee: EU and outside EU and that was it.....at this point who knows what other fees might appear....
thanks</blockquote>

Things like this really piss me off. Do you know if LSE and UCL charge those fees?

I have no idea. didnt remember to see this on their website...but than again ,....when you receive their offer who knows what they require you to pay. They ruin all your financial plans like this and they dont encourage qualified ppl to apply which i dont think is in their favor. lets see what KCL replies maybe the increase is not that big
thanks</blockquote>

It is absolutely shocking these fees ! And these "new" fees do not come from KCL , it is the UK gorvernment who has decided about it so it means that UCL and the others will charge the EQL fees ...
I was pretty shocked when I received the letter and read about the EQL fee and a bit discouraged to say because as you said it ruins all your financial plans and nothing is written about their website when they obviously charged 2010-2011 students with these fees !!!

OK i know its because of the UK government that does not want to finance anymore ppl with equal or lower qualification but why is it that for Bristol for example my offer does not mention anything about this ELQ fee? they only mention the exact amount of the tutition fee without any ELQ. Shouldn't these fees be applicable all over UK? i think we need to read the UK Regulation that should explain this issue better.
We have to see whether UCL or LSE will also charge ELQ. Maybe we are lucky and its like for Bristol.
How do you know they charged ELQ fees last year? As far as i know this year was a big scandal about raising tuition fees in UK but i am not aware of details. Maybe it was also about this ELQ.

dear all, so as to set your mind at ease, it seems th KCL will not charge supplementary fees for ELQ students. They just sent me a message saying also that "fees will be finalised in the near future and candidates will be informed".
good luck to all!
