Career Prospects at KCL or LSE

rg3

Hi, does anyone know what the career services are like at KCL or LSE? I received an offer from KCL but am still waiting to hear back from LSE, which is my first choice. I am currently working at a large international firm in NYC and will have completed 3 years as an associate before starting the LLM program. I'm concerned though about not being able to find a job in London after graduating. I will probably have the option to work at my firm's London or NY offices again, but I want to avoid that if possible and find a job in either government or in-house or the UN, or possibly a boutique firm. What sort of help do KCL and LSE provide with finding jobs for LLM students? Are there career fairs? I'm hoping that my 3 years of work experience and JD from a top U.S. university will help me, but I'm not sure. Thanks in advance.

You will not want to rely on KCL's career services. U will have to do your own digging.

Careers services in UK universities aren't great, so I wouldn't rely on them. If you just want to do an LLM in order to get into government or international organisations, I think it would make more sense to do an internship. That seems to be a better route to employment in such places, especially if you already have all this experience (even if it isn't relevant per se, the skills are transferable).Best of luck.

Yeah, career services are generally over-rated, especially in the present economy. If you want someone to brain-storm with, then, they have people there, but every experience I've had with career services essentially ends with a more expansive list of options, a longer list of resources to consult and more personal questions to ponder. That's all a very good thing, mind you. But, I don't think these are special places which actually get people jobs. They get people resources to find their own jobs.

It's just my opinion. Don't lose your minds.
