BCL, unless you want to do international law.

From a UK point of view and within the scope of my own areas:

- The Oxford BCL is a more prestigious course than the Cambridge LLM. A higher proportion of the top barristers and academics did BCL than the LLM.
- The BCL is a more intensive course than the LLM, with a lot more direct and small group teaching. The BCL has both small group seminars and tutorials. From what I understand the Cambridge course is mostly lecture based.
- Oxford is stronger in more philosophically based areas (e.g. BCL courses on jurisprudence, constitutional theory, philosophical foundations of common law).

If it matters to you, I get the impression that the BCL requires a lot more sustained hard work throughout the course than the LLM.

I understand that the BCL is deemed more prestigous at the Commercial Bar in England. If, however, one intends to practice domestic and international criminal law at the English Bar would the Cambridge LLM be more impressive, given its dominance in this sphere?
