Cambridge LLM 2017 - 2018 Applicants

Same. Anyone reckons what that means? Does that mean that we fulfill the minimum requirements?

Congratulations on the progress of the application :)

I found the following information, maybe will be helpful.

http://www.graduate.study.cam.ac.uk/after-applying/timescales

Thanks! Your link states, that:

"Degree committees

It may take up to seven days from Departmental approval for your application to be considered by the Degree Committee.

Board of Graduate Studies

It may take up to seven days from Degree Committee approval for your application to be considered by the Board of Graduate Studies.

The Graduate Admissions Office makes the official offer of admission to the applicant, by email."

However, this doesn't add up with the application process from the previous years (if you look at the Cambridge LLM-group from last year or the year before that). Even though I would hope so, I don't think we are so lucky to get a respons before late February to mid March.

I mainly relied on the information on that page for illustration of the stages that the application goes through.

As for the timescale, I agree that we are hardly likely to receive answers before late February.

Btw, just got under consideration by degree committee as well.

Has anyone had a change in status? Mine is still "awaiting consideration by the department".

So basically what I've understood from the info from this link is that there has been made a recommendation from the departament on whether we should or should not receive an offer.

Therefore we can't conclude that there is anything positive on moving to the phase we're currently at.

This file (http://www.graduate.study.cam.ac.uk/sites/www.2017.graduate.study.cam.ac.uk/files/process_chart1.pdf) which I found on the before-mentioned page suggest otherwise.

Apparently we are one step closer to admission. Congrats.

This is correct, last year many people made it to the under consideration by the degree committee stage who did not receive offers. In fact, I've never heard of any LLM applicant not making it to this stage.

I think the process is somewhat different this year.

I did my LLM at Cambridge and I am currently applying to their PhD programme. When I did my LLM I never went to 'under consideration'. My application went from Awaiting consideration to the BOGS stage.

Don't be disheartened - you still have a very good chance at being admitted! It might just take longer to get a decision.

The faculty have probably just prioritised a number of applications that (1) they really like or (2) are from specific geographical regions, so that they can compete at a university level for funding such as the gates

Thanks for the encouragement!

I'm from the UK so Gates funding is out for me. Do they sometimes consider Gates applicants first?

The faculty have to make a number of decisions soon regarding applicants that they want to nominate to compete at a university level for funding such as the AHRC, Trust scholarships, Gates etc.

It is also worth noting, that there's a lot of college level funding available for applicants, so this shouldn't be any indication that one won't receive funding.

I read that last year they considered foreign applicants first! But I don't know if this is true or if they are doing the same thing this year.
Anyway, I don't think you're out! Last year some people were under consideration by DC since december, while others were under consideration by department until late january, when their status finally changed.
