Don't lose hope guys!
Posted Mar 21, 2017 21:01
Hi everyone,
I've been following this thread for a while. Until now I felt that I didn't have anything to share since I was still at DC stage.
I also felt I didn't have anything to complain about at first. But this changed during the last couple of days. First of all, I never thought that the University of Cambridge would not respect ist own deadline. Well okay, it is always possible that something unexpected happens. But at least, it would have been possible to inform the applicants who are still waiting for a descision. This could be done in one sentence. They have given false information about when decisions are to be awaited and now, they are responding to some mails, whilst others are simply ignored.
As was stated before, their behaviour is absolutely lacking respect.
There is however one positive point in this process: Cambridge shows its real face.
I thought about it for the last couple of hours and I finally took the decision to withdraw my application. I have spent an enourmous amount of time in this. I have applied for numerous scholar ships. It was my big dream to go to Cambridge. But from what I experienced in this application process, I am quite sure that I would be extremely disappointed. If their grading system is only half as intransparent and unequal (some get responses, others don't), this would be so frustrating! I don't want to be a part of that club. So it's over - one decision less to take, perhaps one place more in the run.
Nevertheless, good luck to all those who still put their hopes into this. Just wanted to share my great feeling of liberation.

Dear All,
I think it is important that Cambridge hears about how badly they have handled their application process this year. I believe that as much as I loved this university, we must accept that the process this year has been very disappointing, largely confusing and clearly messy.
To that end, feel free to drop an email to the following people with feedback.
1. Professor Harris, the LLM Course Director. He is a very lovely gentleman who will try to make things work.
pah1007@cam.ac.uk
2. Professor Richard Fentiman
Chair of the Faculty Board.
rgf1000@cam.ac.uk
3. Professor Kenneth Armstrong
Chair of the famous Degree Committee
kaa40@cam.ac.uk
4. Dr D de Cogan
Deputy Director of the LLM
dad34@cam.ac.uk
5. Dr Kristy Hughes
Deputy Director of the LLM
kh391@cam.ac.uk

He is just stopping by on the LLM thread to offer support to you guys, he did the LLM at Cambridge hence why he knows who to email and is awaiting a PhD decision. It doesn't cost anything to give people the benefit of the doubt.

It's pointless. Top tier universities can play by their own rules. Whining to them about the process won't achieve anything.

I didn't comment on complaining about the process, just the assumption you made about someone who tries to help others on this thread.
If you scroll up many people have expressed dissatisfaction with the process and wanted to complain, he simply provided email addresses kindly. Top tier universities are interested in excellence in every aspect, Oxford recently asked all applicants to complete a survey on the quality of the admissions services and website. Additionally, if enough people express concern then often action is taken to redress these issues. Sticking to a deadline that you set as an institution is not hard, many people on here simply wished to be informed formally even if there was a delay. You are welcome to your own opinion but so is everyone else.

From what I gathered from the thread, everyone who spoke to her before 3 p.m. UK time got a response, where as the rest of us who spoke to her after didn't hear back from her. Maybe it was just the timing :P
Lets hope for the best! :)
