arrival at Oxford

When do you folks plan to arrive at Oxford to read for the Mjur/BCL?
In the last letter I received they said that the program will start Sept 24th. Do they, therefore, exspect us to arrive on Sept 23th? Has anybody heard from his college as to when accomodation is provided? With whom do we have to get in touch first on our arrival?
I am really not quite sure when to book my flight. Any suggestions are welcomed!!
Thanks daniel

Hi Daniel,

The Graduate Common Room webpage of my college (Christ Church) provides some helpful informations for freshers. Maybe you will find something similar on your college's homepage (Teddy Hall, wasn't it?). 24 September 2006 is a Sunday, so I don't expect that any official events will take place on that day. Hence, I will book a flight from Frankfurt in the morning hours.

Why don't we all meet somewhere in the evening on the 24th? My suggestion is the King's Arms Pub next to Trinity College.

Btw, I got a Law Faculty Scholarship and have thus decided to turn down the offer from "the other place".

@ all: My college (Merton) also expects me to arrive on the 24th, so I'll be around in time for the inaugural pub night of the BCL class of 2006 in the King's Arms. Have you thought about which courses you are going to take?

@ Daniel: Your first point of call will be the p'lodge of your college, and you are in all likelihood going to find a comprehensive package of documents in your pigeon hole clearly setting out what and by when you are expected to do something or be somewhere. There will be a series of induction events run by your college and its MCR, almost certainly including a meeting with the law tutors of your college, followed by a similar program at Faculty/University level, plus the inevitable matriculation ceremonies and dinners. I think the point of asking us to come into residence on the 24th is just to give us sufficient time to settle in and get to know the new surroundings so as to be in good shape for the start of an intensive (and very long!) academic year on October 8th.

@ MuellerT: Congratulations on your scholarship and your decision to come to Oxford (although I have to say that to go to Cambridge would have been an equally laudable decision - I did my undergraduate law degree there and had a terrific time, both academically and socially).

Thank you both a lot for your advise.
In the meantime I have both called the faculty and the college. The essence is that we can freely decide when to arrive on Sunday 24th. The induction events will only start at Monday. Personally I will arrive in the afternoon because I I will need some time to rescue from my goodbye party on Saturday:-) Early flights are likely to cause evil hardship after such perties.
@MuellerT: I would be pleased to get together at King's pub. I will give a message in the next days once I know about my actual arrival time.

By the way, I will opt for the dissertation option, contracts, conflict of laws and ??(probably legal history or company law)

Best,

Daniel
