Koen - I did not have enough GO-Pass transfers (!!!) to visit Leuven but I went to all the main cities of each province, including Antwerp and Brugge. I also went to Luxembourg and Maastricht. I am sorry I can't help you with your early arrival: I will myself sleep on someone else's couch in September. It won't be my appartment until october.
Jazz-Thanks for the advice about the ISIC card!! However, I am not sure it will be possible to get it before I move to London as I was not a student during the current year.
All those definitely going to UCL Sep'06.

hi all,
i'll be reading shipping law and international trade law. has anyone been put in James Lighthill house? Also. when are you all arriving in UCL? i don't know when the orientation dates are for international and/or LLM students, but my accomodation only starts from the 23rd sept so that seems to be my arrival date..

HI ALL! Dont forget everyone, airport security are already confiscating liquids and gels that are in hand-carry baggage.
FOR KOEN: Here's what I have about UCLs conditional offers from the booklet they sent me: Once we have received acceptable documentation confirming that all offer conditions have been met, UCL will amend your record and if you are an overseas student issue a revised unconditional offer. I myself received a revised offer. I think the reason for this policy is that international students by default need a formal unconditional offer for visa purposes.
I guess the status update UCL has been telling you about is just an internal record. Per my experience, UCLs telephone operators have access to an up-to-date computer databank. So you can call them if you want a soft confirmation of your condition fulfillment.
On reasons for early arrival, there will be an orientation on Sept. 21 (Thursday).
FOR MALASIA BOLEH: I've been assigned to James Lighthill House too :) Im planning to arrive on the 18th so Id have time to settle in before the orientation on the 21st. If you want to arrive earlier than the 23rd, you should fill out the form they sent with your accommodations offer and indicate there an earlier arrival date. :) Hope to see you there!

Hi ph, I think you should be fine to get one. Just present your offer letter and it should be fine. I got one last year by doing the same.

Hi troy, I'm a UK student. What courses are you intending to study on the LLM?
Hi, corporate and financial law, so far my idea is to take Law of International Finance, Legal aspects of international finance and thinking of other two and you?Hi, I am flying from Moscow to join the program and you?
Hello, I am also thinking of taking legal aspects of I.Finance. Just so you know, you can either take that or Law of International Finance. You can not take both courses because they are too similar, good luck!!!

Has anybody received induction materials from the Faculty of Laws yet?
I contacted them a couple of weeks ago and they said that envelopes would be sent out around about now.

I've contacted them yesterday and they said it would still take a couple of weeks to receive the materials (early September)...

Hi Koen, I also contacted them to get them to confirm my unconditional offer as I need to apply for a loan. They told me that they are still dealing with offers and applications! Apparently you can apply for the LLM right up to September 8th!!

Maybe I better give them my adress in England as they will not send documents before early sept...

It looks a really good commercial law course. Considering I don't have a very strong background in commercial law - which is something I would like to change - I think it is quite positive that you are not expected to have any previous banking or banking law experience. So i might see you for the first lecture!

I agree, it seems to be a very interesting course and I plan on being in the first lecture to get a feeling of what the course is like...

Hi, I'm also going to UCL, focusing on commercial/corporate law, so I will see you guys in the banking course! I need to echo my frustration with the administration - I received the wrong admissions letter and while they realized the error back in July, they haven't done anything to reissue a correct letter yet so I can get my loans and visa. No one likes to answer their phones over there and everyone seems to be on holiday. Frustration aside, I'm really looking forward to the programme! I talked to people in housing and they said if you turned in your papers mid-summer you likely won't hear back until around Sept. 8 or shortly thereafter. Anyone interested in looking for a flat to share in the area? I've never been to London, so I really have no clue what to do about housing.

Is there anyone who has received the induction materials from the Faculty of Laws by now? I am still waiting for it.
Neither have I received a status update to unconditional yet. (On the phone someone from the Law Faculty said that my status was changed to unconditional and that they would send a mail that confirms it...)
I am getting worried that the materials won't arrive in time because this time next week I'll be in London.
Regards and see you soon at UCL!
Koen
