TOEFL Harvard

Nanaka

Hi all, I just received my TOEFL score today. I scored 109 overall with 23 in reading, 29 in speaking and listening, and 28 in writing. Do you think this will be enough to get into Harvard? I know they require a minimum of 25 of each subsection but will 2 points in deficit of the reading section adversely affect my application?

I have already booked another test but was just wondering..any ideas?

Thank you in advance for all comments ;D

Not enough, retake it. Reading part is a basic requirement for legal education. It would be different if you got 23 in Speaking.

That's ridiculous. You did great, congrats. No retaking is necessary. I know tons of people who got accepted and had one or two section bellow 25. Trust me.

One is free to advise whatever he wishes. One is even free to arbitrarily suggest that other people's advice is ridiculous. The point is Harvard sets the criteria of TOEFL and this guy didn't make it. He has already booked a date for retaking, money has been paid. I'm sure there tons of admitted applicants who didn't make it to the minimum requirements, as you confidently said. However, I'm also sure that there are even more of those who got rejected and didn't meet the TOEFL minimum requirement. There is still plenty of time to make one's application perfect for the next round and why not do it???

What good will come out trusting the above advice and not retaking the test when you will finally get rejected????? All he can say is "I'm so sorry but I'm sure it's not because of your low TOEFL score...maybe it's your stupid essay?" If there are 2 applicants with the exactly same qualifications, would you prefer the one who met the TOEFL criteria or the one who lacks it?? It doesn't take a genius to understand this.

Those who got admitted sometimes tend to forget how stressful and unpredictable the admissions can be. Don't you dare underestimate anything.
