Hi everybody,
I have a quick question. I have just received my TOEFL IBT result which is 107/120. The problem is for some schools i need to get at least 25 for each 4 section, so i need overall 100 points. In my case, I got 28, 29, 28 from the reading, listening and writing part, but 22 from the speaking part !! So i don't meet the minimum conditions of the top schools except Columbia:)
Do you think I should take the exam again? Are the admission commitees very strict on these minimums??
Thank you for the reply!!
how strict minimum TOEFL requirements ??

Hi there!
My opinion - you should try again, if you can, of course. Won't be that difficult. Put yourself on the safe side!

As far as I know, Toefl score is never the main factor. You just have to meet the minimum requirement. Say, if the school requires 250 CBT and you have 255 CBT - it is ok. If they like you for some reason - even 245 might be ok. They may just call you and talk to you a bit in order to make sure that you at least can talk :); But if someone has poor credentials and has a score of 299 CBT out of 300 CBT - such person won`t be in just for Toefl.
2) I think that you might still retry to get a higher score and get some competitive edge.

Hi guys,
I agree with KAI. If the admission committee likes your credentials the Toefl score wont be a problem. Even if it is slightly below the minimum requirement. You got really good scores in three sections (reading, listening and writing), and a overall score above the minimum required for Columbia. I dont think they will reject you only because you scored 22 in speaking - which is, by the way, not bad at all. However, if you think it is important to get a higher score, go forward.
Good luck, man!

Thank you all for the replies! I didn't know anything about the exam before taking it so in speaking section I had difficulty in attributing the seconds since I have never counted the seconds while speaking:))
If I can find any place I will take the exam again... In Netherlands it's almost impossible to take the exam, I don't know why..
Thanks a lot once again!
