I have a friend graduated from HLS with a toefl score of 105. Bu his speaking was 17, which is way off from what they require-25... I think they consider the application as a whole package. If your other credentials are OK, I don't think they will make big fuss about it...
I also have another friend who got 99 from Toefl and just graduated from CLS, which requires 100.
So don't worry about it..

lawcocacola thank you for your reply. I've heard also people admitted to Columbia without the minimum TOEFL score. But, never heard someone from NYU.
Does anyone know someone admitted to NYU who felt into this category??

I have exactly the same problems...I scored 98 the second time, but I was much better in the speaking part (26) than the first time (20). But, unfortunately, my writing was lower than the first time. I had to apply....now, I will re-take toefl in january...but if I screw that again, I hope that they will look the application as a whole!
