Which programs excel, especially in the UK/Ireland? I'm kind of attracted to Nottingham as an option but I saw they don't have a specialised research centre. How relevant is such a factor?

Swansea, Southampton, would be at the top, but Nottingham is too an excellent choice and still very active when it comes to research, despite what you mention.

Swansea is currently the top in the LLMGuide. They also have a very famous research centre. I would always recommend Swansea.
