You cannot transplant it to the African continent and expect it to retain the tough character which it has in England. In these far off lands the people must have a law which they understand and which they will respect. The common law cannot fulfil this role except with considerable qualifications: Nyali Ltd v. Attorney General {1955} 1 All ER 646 at 653.
