Hi!
I have practiced for 2.5 years in the field of international arbitration and feel that an LLM may give me the opportunity to excel. Also, being from India, I feel I need some good international exposure to grow in the field of arbitrations. I have good academic credits (First Class throughout law school) and one good academic reference. I have one semi academic and one employer reference. No publications though
I do not want to go the US for personal reasons. Let's leave them out. I am looking at UK and Europe. I have applied to NYU@NUS, Cambridge, Oxford, LSE, UCL, KCL, UMLA. I am sure I will get through at least one of these. I am also applying to Geneva Masters. Is there anything else in UK or anywhere else in Europe that you would suggest.
I want to be sure that after I pass out I will be able to get a top UK Law firm job in arbitration or a good funding for further research in a good university. I need to justify to myself the huge costs these courses would involve.

A lot of people have given me the feedback that QMUL is very reputed in this field. Can someone throw some light as to how and from what this reputation is derived. Do you mean to say that notwithstanding the ranks, QMUL is better for IA. e.g. better than KCL and UCL?

Hi,
I am currently attending the Geneva Master in International Dispute Settlement (the "MIDS"). I can tell you that the program is really the cutting edge in the field. In fact, not only the professors can be considered as the best in the area of international dispute settlement, but also the network offered by the program is indeed unique.
Besides, the program is organized in a Swiss manner...which means accuracy. Furthermore, you should also bear in mind that the MIDS is co-organized by two very well-known institutions, namely the University of Geneva and the Graduate Institute...
I do commend it to you!

Thanks a lot! I have submitted my application to Geneva already and have been informed that I shall hear from them around Feb 2010. Given the no of students they take, I don't have very high hopes. Though I think I stand a chance on all other counts, I have no publications. That I think might work against me in the most competitive places.

Dont waste time with other LL.M.s, the MIDS has proved in less than one year to be the best in the field. It is true is very exclusive but I dont think is a problem not to have publications!

Sorry, but this sounds like you work in the marketing department of MIDS...

I dont care about how it sounds... its what I think, you can think whatever you want! I decided to apply for this program for next year, after a lot of research, and I can asure you that you will not find any other program in the world with such a quantity of well-known professors in the field... in geneal other masters have 1, 2, maybe 3 good professors.. this progam has almost all the popes of abitration... probably that is the reason why is so expesive, but it woth it!

Ok, I know it's been quite a while since the last post, but I would be thankful if someone can give me a heads up abouts LLM in International Dispute Settlement for 2010 or 2011.
I also heard about QM as an outstanding program, and also about its PG Diploma in Arbitration.
I have certified courses in Commercial Arbitration (CIAC and Local), also some experience in commercial dispute settlement (6 months) and I would like to undertake first a PG Diploma in this subject and then think about the LLM... Cause: LLM requires significative experience and I think I lack of it.
- Do you think it's valuable to take first a Diploma and then LLM in this field or it's just a waste of time???
- Also, Which option is the best for a Diploma AND for an LLM in the Field, QM, Geneva, or any other (maybe an Ivi or Oxbridge)????
- And about getting job oportunities related to the Arbitration Field, is Geneva a good location, I heard it's harsh to get a chance over there, maybe in the UK the panorama is more expedite?????
Thx in advance.

Do you have any other information about this program.
I think the fact that it doesn't only focusses in International Arbitration but also in Litigation is quite interesting.
Do you have information about Professors in this program?
And about the practical aproach?? There is one subject related to it.
Does it worth trying to get a chance in the program???
