LLM Duke applicants for entry fall 2021-2022

Minion

Hi everyone,

Are there other members who applied for an LLM at Duke University for entry in fall 2020-2022? I applied on Monday and today I received an e-mail to schedule an interview with the Associate Dean. Does anyone know if this is a good sign that it went so fast? What should I expect from the interview?

I made this discussion so we can share our experiences and keep each other updated.

Hi Minion,

I suppose that's a good sign. Some alumni reported that they received their offers at the end of the interview.
Good luck to you.

Hello!

I applied to Duke on 13 November and received the email to schedule the interview with Dean Maher on 20 November. I had my interview on 30 November and was accepted at the end of it. (The interview lasted about 25-30 minutes).

The interview is a great opportunity for them to know you better; it is not so formal in nature. They want to know if Duke is the right fit for you. It will be a conversation about your career goals and what you expect from the program. They would expect you to have questions for them (academic or otherwise), so feel free to prepare some beforehand.

Good luck to you in the process ahead!

Congrats. Did you got both admission offer and financial support from the interview?

Thanks Floating Lawyer,

It seems like most of the people who get an interview end up being admitted at the end of the interview. I hope this will also be the case for me.

Hi everyone!

I’m still writing my personal statement for Duke! Since some of you guys have already received an offer, I got really nervous here. Thinking I am late!
Does anyone here that didn’t applied yet?
thanks!

Hi everyone,

I had my interview today and it is a really nice conversation with Dean Maher. She is a very sweet woman who is genuinely interested in your goal and career plans. At the end of the interview she told me that I was admitted.

Succes everyone!

Congrats @minion. Hope to see you at Duke maybe next year.

@Mariana it is a little towards the end of application cycle. But do it asap .  Thing is most schools will close for winter vacations in a day or two. So maybe they just wanted to give some christmas gifts before closing :-). Anyway good luck.

Hi everyone, I had my interview and was admitted :)

Did you send a thank you email after the interview?

Also, how long did it take for you to get the confirmation letter?

The Associate Dean told me that LLM-students are able to join extracurricular activities such as for instance moot courts. I assume that the same LLM-students can also do externships then. After all, Duke University wants to create a learning environment where LLM-students and JD-students can flourish all together.

Congratulations with the admission! It took me a day to receive a copy of the admission letter by e-mail and a week to receive it by regular mail.

Is anyone else stressed about having to choose a law school to attend without ever having visited it or the surrounding area?

Also, happy new year everyone :)

Hi Mariana,

One day isn't long for it to be under review, so I wouldn't worry too much about that!

Dean Maher (she isn't the only one who conducts the interviews - there are a few others who do it too!) said at the start of the interview that they only interview people they are genuinely interested in admitting, so I presume that they interview the majority of people who get accepted. That being said, it does not necessarily mean it is a prerequisite to being admitted!

Hope this helps :)
