A list of good and bad with on campus housing and off campus housing?

Any advise, feedback, experiences of fellow LLM-ers, previous graduates welcome. Looking at NY, but any advise in general is appreciated. Trying to make a decision based mainly on costing, furnished / unfurnished housing, safety and travelling options.
