Hi,
I currently work in a legal department at one of the world's leading academic and science publishers, predominantly working with IP, copyright and image rights and licencing, both in the UK and globally, and contracts. I am looking at continuing my training and would like some advice on how to proceed.
I have a 2:1 BA (Hons) English Literature with English Language and Communications and a distinction in MA Publishing (getting top grades in my legal module), and experience as above with media/IP law. So, I am looking at my options: I am eligible to apply to do an LLM at several universities, as long as I choose modules that fit my experience (which I would anyway as I want to continue in this area).
However, I am considering making the jump into the legal profession as my next career move. Would doing an LLM help me on the path to becoming a media/IP lawyer? Or do I have to do the GDL/CPE anyway?
Thanks!
E

Please let me know what you come up with. I also want to pursue my LLMbut I am not sure whether to go for GDL first, as I have BSC in Civil engineering and MBA?

Some good discussion on this here:

Somebody from City weighed in, saying that if you want to work in an English law firm, do a GDL and do a training contract. If you're less sure about what you want to do, or your career goals aren't as focused, then do an LLM instead. The thread is a bit old at this point so maybe contact the schools you are interested in directly, and see if they can help you make the decision.
