Hi all this is my first post on the forum but Ive been a long time lurker. There really is so much information on here; an absolutely fantastic resource no doubt.
So, about me; I have a BA (Hons) in Business and Management and in a month or so Ill have also completed a PostGrad Diploma in Quantity Surveying (construction finance, technology and law for those of you from countries where this title does not exist). The PG.Dip is essentially a dissertation short of a Masters. I want to specialise in construction law and as such am looking at the next step in my career.
It looks like a choice between an LLM and a CPE at the minute. CPE seems to only exist in the UK (where I live) so I presume this is only relevant if I want to practice in the UK. My partner is Swedish and we want to live and work overseas so an internationally recognised qualification is important to me. Would the LLM meet my needs (i.e. would it be a step towards qualifying as a lawyer and if so what further studies would I need to undertake?)?
Similarly, would the EMLE qualification be a step towards being able to practice as a lawyer or would I still require a more general law qualification?
Internationally, what are the equivalents to a CPE?
Sincerest thanks for taking the time to read my post and thanks in advance for any responses.

If you do the GDL(CPE) at the College of Law, that automatically becomes an LLB once you've passed it. At BPP you could take extra modules to make it an LLB. Otherwise a GDL is not recognised anywhere else accept in the UK. If you get an LPC/BVC after that + training/pupilage then you'll qualify.
You could try applying for an LLM straightaway without an LLB if you want to apply to a specific area. Some unis might rather you have a GDL before you are admitted though.
