Hi!
As most of the colleges will be announcing offers/results in March, thought would be great if we could have a forum to interact.
Has anyone received offers? I have received an offer from Cornell. Awaiting response from other colleges.

heyy.. congratulations :) i'm planning to apply for the 2012 Fall Program.. Any tips??

If you are applying for the 2012 program, PLEASE plan to apply for the Fulbright scholarship program right away even before you begin research on law schools and courses you want to apply for. Fulbright deadlines are a year before the course starts! So the deadline for application for a scholarship to a course staring sept 2012 is July 2011!
So please apply for it if u require scholarship. I missed the deadline and checked it late last year to discover their deadlines are so early. feel like such a douche! :(

Hi! do u mean to say that since Nursery, your medium of instruction has been English. You can apply for Toefl Waiver in such a case as most universities have a provision for the same. However, the grant of Toefl Waiver is discretionary. While Toefl is more recognized by US colleges, colleges in UK recognize IELTS.

agree with sapphire. TOEFL waiver is discretionary and your waiver request should be accompanied by official letters from your school, college etc. certifying that the medium of instruction is english and that all their courses have been in english. It's a hassle, in my opinion. Simply take the TOEFL exam - the scores are valid for 2 years and you don't have to worry about paperwork while u apply to every university.
About grades and work experience, it is a generic question and has no objective answer - it depends from case to case and is at the university's discretion. Yes, obviously you are expected to have consistently decent grades (not below average) and work ex always counts, although it may not be always necessary. again, it depends on the strength of the other aspects of your application such as essay. Good luck!

As in th kind of work experience that will add to the application. Are judicial clerkships really that important? Did you guys do these clerkships too? and if yes for how long?

Hi Siri,
I too am planning to apply for the 2012 Fall Program. Couple of my friends have benefitted from doing a clerkships (for a year), although in my view any kind of work ex would be helpful. It really depends on the University and the course you are looking at. It would be useful to first identify a Uni/Course and then think about what you need to get admitted.
Let me know your thoughts. What kind of courses are you looking at?

to add to what thewhiterose said, doing a clerkship gives you a great opportunity to obtain a reference from a SC or HC judge which is of great value to your LLM application. If you have the chance to do a clerkship, take it on!
Best of Luck!

thewhiterose! thanks a lot! courses i want to take well... i'm spoilt for choices... too many interesting courses offered i cant seem to decide! will keep you updated.. and how bout you? have you decided on the universities and the courses?
Simone: thanks :)
another important thing bout these clerkships that i'd like to know is the duration. Do we have to do it for a whole year? Or a couple of clerkships for a couple of months each would help too?

Hi, I am a law graduate from India and am really keen on doing my LLM in corporate law. However last year I could only apply to NUS, Singapore due to some issues.
I got the offer letter from NUS yesterday for admission into its Corporate & Financial Services Law for the 2011-2012 sem. Now I am in a dilemma. Should I or should I not accept this offer. Since I haven't yet applied to any other institutes like LSE, Kings etc I am wondering if it would n't be a better idea to apply to these institutions this year and then decide accordingly.
However NUS I guess is a good university yet I really dont know much about it. Pleaseeeeeeeeeee help me make up my mind! Can anybody please tell me if it is a good idea to accept the NUS offer or wait till next year??

@Siri - Haven't decided on anything. The biggest question for me is whether to do a General LLM or one of the specialised courses US Universities offer. And my current job doesnt offer me enough time to really put myself into the whole process. I think I will end up applying to a large number of places and then play the waiting game!!!
@Amrapalli - Its a tough question. But if you are keen on Corporate Law, US and NYU is the best option. Although the number of students would be large, the chance to live in one of the greatest places in the world is too tempting!!!! And from what I know, the faculty and infrastructure for the Corporate Law course is unmatched - one of the very best. If I were you, I would be excited and packing my bags.
