Hi,
Is anyone doing the MAS in International Humanitarian Law in Geneva? I have been accepted and confirmed my admission for the period 2006-2007 which begins this Oct. Anyone in the same situation?

Hi
I have also just found out that I have been accepted, but only after I phoned the University.
Have you been given any info re starting dates, accomodation suggestions, etc?
It's all a bit vague, and I'm still tossing up whether to accept or not!
Thanks
Deborah

Hi Deborah,
Classes begin on Oct. 23-24. The accomodation suggestions they gave me are in this link (bureau des logements): http://www.unige.ch/dase/bulog/
They have several buildings with different kinds of dorms and most of them are very close by to the UCIHL. The deadline for applying to those dorms is July 15. Otherwise there are also some private lodging options though i guess they're more expensive. I know another girl who is also attending the UCIHL, perhaps we could discuss the options later on if you decide to attend. Also, I suggest you call the UCIHL agains and ask them about the enrollment procedure to the University of Geneva (UNIGE) because you have to be "matriculated" there, in order to be able to begin the program at the UCIHL and the deadlin for doing that is June 1, but I guess if you just found out you've been accepted to the UCIHL they will have no problem in your sending the required format and papers to the UNIGE later on. You can find that info at: http://www.unige.ch/dase/?buimi/admission.html
Don't hesistate to keep in touch with me if you have any further doubts.

Hi Frida
Thanks so much for your advice.
Yes, let's definitely keep in touch about the accomodation issue.
I've just received the documents, including the Geneva enrolment forms, so I guess I'll have to get onto that pretty quickly. My problem is that I haven't applied for any scholarships and it looks as though I may be out of time. Are you doing this through scholarships? I spoke with the University and the lady I spoke to there suggested that many people work to pay their way, so I may look into that as well.
Hope this all works out, I'm pretty excited about this programme!

Hi I've just been sent an acceptance letter for the 2007/8 MAS. I was wondering whether anyone has any advise about the completion of the enrolment at the University of Geneva. The application form is in French and there is no mention of the UCIHL on there!

Hi. First, congratulations to every accepted applicants! I got some questions to you. To my knowledge, this program is called "Master in advanced studies." Does this mean that this program is more suitable for the professionals of the related field?
Also, could you please share with us your background? e.g. working experience.
Thanks a lot!

Hi lechat,
My background is that I am in my final year of my Law degree at The University of Leeds, England, not a professional and they have offered me a place so I presume that it is also aimed at non-professionals as well!

Hello all,
I just registered myself to this site, and was wondering if I could join your conversation? I'm about to send my application to UCIHL.
I'm currently doing an MA in international law and human rights, but my BA was in journalism. Do you guys know if an LLM requires a lawyer degree (ie law school or a BA in law)? If you could share your impressions of the course so far, too, that'd be great!
Thanks!
All best,
Gabriel

Hi All
I am interested in applying for this course to begin in 2008.
However I am from Australia and am concerned about how to finance my time in Geneva - does anyone know of the number of scholarships awarded and whether it would be possible to get an english speaking job in Geneva whilst studing?
Also - is there anyone who has completed this course or knows of anyone who has completed the course and if so what sort of positions do they hold now?
Cheers,

Hi guys: I just finished filling out my online registration form on the University of Geneva website (and paid 65 CHF). Does anyone know if we have to send transcripts and the such to University of Geneva? It seems fruitless considering we've already been accepted to UCIHL...
Let me know what you think! Thanks.

hey Amanda,
I did send copies of everything to the University - I had exactly the same thoughts about it being done twice but I just did as was asked! don't know what others did but I just did it to save any time delays or complications!

Hi Ken! Thanks for the response. I mailed the documents today - I hope postmarked by the 30 April will suffice...
Have you found housing yet? I've just begun my search. I'm taking the NY July bar so all of this has had to take a back seat...

Hi
I have also enrolled in the MAS programme for this September. Also keen to know if anyone has sorted out housing yet. I haven't started searching properly yet, but get the feeling the housing market is quite tight and expensive! Any thoughts on suburbs would be great! Looking forward to meeting you guys later in the year!

Hi people!
I have a question for all of you. Can I apply at UCHIL even I have not yet graduated? I am planning to apply for 2008/2009 and I will graduate on June,2008. I am thinking to continue my studying right away I finish it.
Thanks

hi sanja84,
you can apply even though you have not graduated I have done that this year - they have given me a conditional offer so I will have to wait until I get my results to know if I have a place but they do let you apply with predicted results.
