Hello Everyone!

I want to start this post so that all the applicants to Sciences Po's LLM in Transnational Arbitration & Dispute Settlement for the year 2017-18 can come together and discuss.

Since this is the very first year that this program has been introduced, I think it would help us all if discuss any issue pertaining to the LLM program.

Thanks for starting the thread. I'll be putting in an application in the next week. It will be interesting to see if other on this board are doing so.

I got my application in the day before they closed.

Is there anyone else now waiting on Sciences Po?

I completed my application on March 14.

My status changed to "Your application is currently under review" and it remains like that to date. I e-mailed Admissions on April 11 to ask them for an estimated date for results and got a reply on April 20, stating that, as my application was considered complete on April 12 (?), I would receive my admission results by the end of May.

I'm not waiting on SciencesPo, though, as I enrolled in another program, but I guess the info might still be useful.

Yes. The status of my application is the same.

I have some concerns though. I wonder how many students have applied to the course though. I don't wanna end up studying with very few students and most of the modules cancelled.

Hey guys, I have submitted my application last month for this LLM and I currently have the same status.

I received an email last month explaining that those who completed their app before April 14th would be informed on the admission decision by the end of May whereas the rest would only know by the end of June. So I thought they must have expected to get a lot of applicants.

But here's my take on the number of applicants: Sciences Po students can't apply to this LLM - they can only apply to their Economic Law Masters; there won't be many French law students as applicants in general since 1) tuition fees are too high for the French system, 2) an experience in arbitration is required and the competition is so fierce in Paris that it's uncommon for a French student to have had one; now considering int'nl applicants the main drawback of this LLM is its late date of creation - I think most brilliant students have already settled for another quality LLM in Europe or US and won't wait until late May/June.

There will probably be more of young professionals and mature applicants. I myself am a French law student with an international academic background but I have accepted another LLM in arbitration in case I don't get in this one.

Hi MX24. Yes I'll know my results by the end of this week. I have been offered a place in Queens London LLM in Arbitration and I wish to keep it as a backup. In which college are you offered an admission?

Admitted! Guys I got the email from Sciences Po and the status in application page also changed. I am admitted ! Yay! Anyone else got similar emails?

I submitted my application in Feb and was accepted to the Program by early April. I ended up deferring my offer for a year (till 2018). Although there could be advantages of being part of the inaugural class, it looks like there will be a low turn out for many of the reasons stated by MX24. That being said, I believe its a top notch program from the course content, faculty and of course because of its location.

Congrats isbjorn2101, that's fantastic! I submitted my app on April 22nd so it looks like I won't get a reply before late June. I have Humboldt as a backup; didn't apply to the UK since I previously studied there and wanted a change (the US not being an option financially-wise). Fingers crossed for ScPo tho!
Makes me wonder how many people got already admitted and accepted the offer / or were rejected.

That's news to me. I can't see that anywhere on their website.

Before submitting an application, I floated my background (including 'mature age') past them to see if there were any aspects that would disqualify me from selection. And of course stating that I understood that selection was on the merits of an application, and their reply would have no bearing. There is no arbitration experience in my background. The reply said that there was nothing that should prevent me from applying. So I did.

I don't agree. From their reply to my pre-application enquiry:

"Regarding the required qualification and professional experience, applicants to the LLM programme have to hold a law degree (Master 2, JD, LL.B., or the equivalent) and a professional experience, not necessarily as a lawyer".

I meet those requirements (I have an LLM) but I'm not a lawyer. Their answer went on to say that on the face of it I qualified. (As I mentioned earlier, that was not any kind of promise for the assessment. I was looking for any negatives that would suggest I not apply).

Ohh congrats. Why did you defer the offer ?

Yeah that's true actually, even I think all those problems will be there . But on a positive note, in my opinion, since a lot would bank on the success of the inaugural batch, I think it will be advantageous to study in this batch. I think we'll get more exposure to practical aspects and more chances of employment considering the size of the class.

Although, i agree that this is looking at the coin from one side.
