hello everyone here,
I just just signed on this website. It is a cool place for the LLM students... love the colour of the pages.
well, I was thinking that if anyone knows how the reputation for Leiden's LLM programmes is... I heard that there is no official rankings for universities in the Netherlands. I was thinking about going to Leiden to do a LLM. Maybe I will try the european business law one, though as a Chinese student i might be the minority in the class.
thanks if you reply to this msg. :)

Hi Star
From all I have heard Leiden has a very good reputation, so I am sure it would be a good choice. The only thing I would consider if I had to make the decision is that if you want to go to the Netherlands why not go to Amsterdam instead, the city much fun. As to the Chinese students I have experienced that there are usually at least some in every LLM program.. Wo hui shuo y dian dian zhongwen. Ni shi bu shi shang hai ren ma?

xie xie ni Julius! zhen shi tai hao le ni ju ran hui shuo zhong wen!
wo bu shi shang hai ren. How did you think so?
thanks for your advice. Well, I have considered Amsterdam, however, I didn't find the right programme for me. Well, I know it would easier if I go somewhere they got lots of Chinese students. But that certainly has disadvantages as well, anyway, that isnt the most important factor. I believe there are Chinese students everywhere... hehe. What bothers right now about the European Business Law programme which i'd like to choose is that as the majority are european students and the class is going to be held in the form of seminars, i wonder how i could handle the English with so many different european accents.... just kiddin

Hey Star! Wo zai shang hai gong zuo le last year, thats why I was asking. Dan shi beijing ye tai piaoliang!
Yes, I think you will find Chinese people everywhere but my guess is that most of Chinese students go to the big LLM programs in the US and England. But Leiden is also well-known and I am sure the students there are from allover the world too.
How come you are so fluent in English, have you studied abroad sometime?

last year in chinese is 'que nian' ... hehe... guess you might need this.
right right, many chinese students are looking for LLM programmes in the UK or the US. It is a very hard decision to make. I chose the Netherlands because they got lots of international law programmes, which the other unis in other parts of the world may not offer. To be honest, I just plan to do another programme in some field other than law immediately after the LLM. So i guess it wont matter where I go for the LLM... Oh, it is a bit messed up here. How about you? What kind of job you had in Shanghai? Where you now? You plan to do a LLM? I havent been abroad, just picked up the language by learning at school, normal English classes

HI Star,Hi Julius! It's nice to see you here.I'm applying for LLM program in Netherlands too,it seems that the reputation of Leiden is quite good.I come from China, shanghai.Good to know you guys!

Sounds good, another degree after the LLM means a long time abroad, I am sure you will enjoy. What other things interest you MBA or somethingsimilar? And what do you mean with 'mess' exactly?
Thanks for que nian, I am not that far with Mandarin, its so difficult with all these symbols..., I will start a new course next week.
In Shanghai I was working as a trainee lawyer, only for 3 months though. I already did a Master Degree and am currently doing a PhD in Germany (where I am from). But at this very moment I am in New York doing some research as part of my PhD studies,..a little bit confusing maybe.... ;-)
Are you planning on working abroad later?

hey Julius, you found a Shanghai ren here finally! And a very cute Shanghai girl! lol... That is fantastic that you are doing a PhD! How is it like? I have once thought about doing a Phd, but gave up that idea immediately. I don't think I will be ready for that in quite a long time. What is your research subject? So many questions I got, you see. I am not sure what programmes i will pursue after the LLM, maybe sociology or economics, i am always interested in those areas. You are right that this will let me study longer abroad, i dont think one year doing the LLM abroad can give me enough time to explore the life and culture abroad.
hey, you are awesome. From all i heard that doing a Phd in Germany is pretty hard. Here is my email starwenjin@msn.com... drop me an email whenever you like

Lulu, the one year time studying abroad will not be enough for me. You know, it is like going on a trip, and you end up with knowing little about your major and the country you plan to go. That is not what I desire....
Posted Jan 17, 2005 00:27
Hey Star, yes, I think the hardest thing about the PhD is that you have to be very disciplined as you are working by yourself the whole time. Also you dont have a group of ohter people doing the same thingas you, like you have when doing a Master. I just started in September so there is still a long way to go..
I think its a good decision to go abroad as long possible, many people I know say they had the best time of their life.. Are you planning on changing the city/country after the LLM?

Hi Lulu, I am impressed, even in Europe many people outside Germany dont know Fassbinder and Wenders, do you have a special interest in Germany?

Hi Julius.Yes I do have a special interest in Germany.I'm trying to find some available courses there even.and I regret a lot not visiting Germany last time I was in Europe...as to these directors, yes I focus a lot on movies, especially european ones(that's also why I like Germany)...anyway,hope I could be there one day.na yi ding shi yi ge mei li de di fang.

Hi Star, where do you plan to continue your study?Do you also major in law?You are right, one year won't be enough for understanding the culture, not to mention being a part of it.There must be a long way to go.Du courage!

Hi Lulu
nice to hear that! As far as LLMs in Germany are concerned, they are mostly in German but you can try to find the right ones by using the PRogram Search and chosing English with Germany, I think you get LLMs in hamburg, Munich and some other cities (not Berlin unfortunately though)
