Law Masters LLM in Erasmus University Rotterdam is TOO DIFFICULT

pedavij535

I am student in Erasmus University Rotterdam studying Masters in Law in 2021. It is absolutely terrible experience studying here.

Last month we get grade for Commercial Law. Whole time they teach 1 thing, and then exam decide go tested different thing. I read question papper like "wth they no even teach this"! Passing mark for module in the whole school is only 40+%. Meaning less than half class pass!! How is possible? We are living in covid all the lectures online already so difficult to understand, how can they fail so many people? I know my english not very good, but I very sure that I answered questions with correctly concept. Because I read answers after exam. Best thing is that when you attend review that is done by they 2 teachers, that smirk on faces really condescending. I don't even dare ask question

Also the exams closed book. We have to use on "readers" which is law. It ready like 1 week before the exam. 1 week! How even to revise in time? Everyone else other masters had them 1 month before we only 1 week. Everyone had rush down to store to buy, pay 80 euros for it. Best thing is that the readers pages came out after flipping it for just three day. Then when go to exam hall the examiner like "Why you have this spare paper?! You try to cheat". Then we scared have to leave the paper outside the hall. I think no have but still scared happen

This is horrible school. They never teach properly one. Ask you do assignment even before they teach the subject. Every time ask you question, but actually the subject will only teach next week. Maybe they want people read in advance. But it is graded assignment. People all fail these one, then overall grade fail.

Erasmus University Rotterdam wants you to fail your Masters so they can get more your money. I have never study in school that do fails so many people and trys to fail so many people. My big regret is coming to this school. I think of quit and some classmates also think of quit too.

I suggest all my enemy to come this school. But if you my friend, STAY FAR AWAY OR YOU WILL REGRET

Still disbelief me? See this link to another thread on this same webpage... Same forum, same complain. 10 year still no change.

I agree with you. Erasmus University Rotterdam is generally known to be the worst university in Netherlands. Incompetent teachers, unfriendly admin staff and many many problems

I was a student during covid. We were in lockdown so we must watch online lectures. There will always be technical problems. We often cant watch anything and have to struggle with learning the stuff ourselves.

Readings are also given in a haphazard manner that shows little thought towards designing the course. Its like a monkey on google just smashed it all into a file that is the reading list.

Exams are another chaotic manner. No one tells you what to do, every one has to figure out every thing themself. 24 hours before my exam, no one told us what to do, what link to click etc. Every one was so stressed on our whatsapp chat because no one from school replied us. Not even the course contact knew what to do.

To add salt to wound, I had a problem with my exam just like the lectures. My result was invalid due to no fault of mine. I email the school. After weeks of waiting, they said too bad. I cant graduate on time and I lost a job because of that

We made a bad choice coming to Erasmus to do our masters :((

We completely understand that doing a Master during COVID is a challenge. The Erasmus University gives students excellent academic education and is guiding students to succeed their law studies in a year. Universities in the Netherlands are not primarily funded by tuition fees and it is in our interest to see students graduate in one year. In law careers facts are crucial and the above comments lack essential information.

Having your digital reader at the beginning of the block, which is more than a month before the Exam, is not mentioned. At Erasmus you had the chance to follow hybrid education and to come to campus from the beginning of the academic year until mid December of 2020 despite COVID.

Classes were given live on campus in the biggest rooms on campus to guarantee social distance, and could be followed via livestream, watched later via the recordings and distant/virtual students could interact via ZOOM or via Discussion Boards. We believe in active academic learning, a format where students study on their own, in pairs or groups. Lessons are an extension of the materials and assignments. This enables a steep learning curve and we know that in the end on average 70-80% of the students will graduate in a year.

Most of our teaching staff have earned their footprint in the academic world or in practice. We understand dealing with disappointment is tuff but you can complain at the student advisor, master coordinator or go to your fellow students in the student panel. The Erasmus University has a Diversity and Inclusion Officer and an special Corona website in which frequent updates are given https://www.eur.nl/en/news-calendar/corona with a lot of attention for the wellbeing of students.

The Dutch culture is direct, upfront and respectful. Rotterdam is a young, divers and modern city in which the mentality work hard, play hard, and aim high is embraced. We will try to improve every year, take student feedback seriously and we are looking forward to welcome talented international law bachelors!

Hi! I am applying for the LLM in commercial law at EUR, starting this September. I also have the option to go to the University of Groningen and I am SO confused. I was wondering if you could tell me more about your experience with the law faculty at EUR, professors, exams, student life etc? Would be much appreciated!

The difference between EUR and Groningen is the campus life and the city. Rotterdam is a divers, international, modern and hip city where the river Maas runs through and the harbor is present but the industry belonging to a big harbor city is about 30 km outward from the citycenter. Groningen is a more quiet student town with ancient buildings where the campus is a bit further from the city center and the town itself is a bit more remote. Rotterdam is the University where law meets business and the libraries are on campus for Groningen is the library right in the city center. Both are totally different experiences. Hope this helps a bit.

Unfortunately some advice given here is not entirely accurate, and we'd like to briefly comment on such. The Faculty of Law at the U. of Groningen is located in the city centre of Groningen (Harmonie complex), as is the Law library and University Library. Groningen is not a town; it is a city of over 200,000 and the capital city of the Groningen province. There are two large universities in Groningen and roughly a fifth of the population are students (Dutch + international); it is a very lively student city. The U. of Groningen is the second oldest in the Netherlands (after Leiden) and the city itself over 900 years old. While there are many historical buildings in/around the city, university facilities are still quite modern (not ancient).

Hello, I have been admitted to LLM in EUR and after reading these I got scared and quite crossed in accepting the offer. Is the school so discriminatory and demanding with not providing assistance to their students? That’s worrying..
