Hi everyone,
I just recently received notice that I was admitted to the ILF program next for next year. I was hoping to get in touch with other people that have been admitted?
Also, I have a question for current students. How has the ILF been effected given the current financial crisis? Specifically, have students still been able to get prestigious internships? Also, has the ILF added or adjusted any of the course materials to address the crisis?
Thanks!

Hello to both of you. I recently got an offer from the ILF for SY 2009-10. However, I am still waiting for decisions on my other applications. If I dont get them soon, I'll accept ILF...I like the program of LLM Finance but I need more info on the degree of difficulty of the econ and bus courses. I am a lawyer and I have a mere average grasp of economics and purel business subjects. Dont you guys have any idea on how difficult, or technical, these subjects can get?
Posted Apr 03, 2009 16:15
From my humble point of law, I would say that the ec and buss course are not that difficult. It seems to my that they are mere introductory courses. Anyway you can have a look to the course content and make your own judgment. They can not expect that as lawyers we have to achieve an economic knowledge.

As a current student i can tell you - don't worry about the economic courses - there is nothing scary, sometimes they are even more interesting than the law courses. In addition, most of the students are with a legal background - the professors are aware of that and they try to present the material in more understandable for us, the lawyers, way.

Thank you alexia and colorado for your opinions. I already accepted the ILF offer for admission to its LLM Finance and I am quite excited... Whoever is going to ILF I'll see you there. I might arrive in Sept to take the German course .

Alexia would you have the goodness to tell the audience your thoughts about the course? What I would like to hear from you is how you find the courses, how hard it is, the demand of work, the internship placementvery many thanks.

Well, this is quite large topic but i will do my best to help. Regarding the ec. courses - i took accounting, monetary policy and principles of economics - from these, in my opinion, the first one requires the most work, but i find it quite useful and interesting; monetary policy is also interesting and at the same time not so hard to study; principles of economics is a very basic course, doesn't require much efforts. As far as i know from the colleagues Fundamentals of finance is hard and time-consuming course...
Regarding the internship placement ... it is too complicated to summarize the experience; i mean, some of the people were happy with their placements, some were not. Factors like nationality and experience often play their role in that process...
If i can help with sth else - feel free to ask.

Ok, thank you very much, however I was much interesting in law courses rather than the economics ones.
Are you having a good time over there?
Are you taking comparative compamy law/ If so, Do you like?
How hard are the exams? Could you please let me know the structure? Cheers.

Regarding Comparative company law - my personal opinion is that the course itself has a nice idea and the material is useful but ... that is all. I think that it is better not to take it (there are quite a lot of reasons for that statement:)
The exams, generally speaking, are not so hard but of course they require proper preparation - some of them are more time consuming than others. There are no oral exams, only written ones - it might be a test, questions that you have to answer, a journal or an essay, depends on the course.
Are we having a good time ... yeah, i can say so (but of course this is a bit subjective perception :))

Hello Alexia,
Since you have been in Frankfurt for quite some time, can you tell me if the monthly allowance of 900 Euro sufficient? I am not from Europe and I don't have an accurate idea of the cost of living there. I am a scholar, and my sponsor will base the monthly allowance that it will actually give me solely on the statement and estimate of ILF, i.e, 900 Euro. According to my friend who studied in Germany for four years, that amount may cover only the rent and food, excluding miscellaneous expenses like additional materials for school, emergency needs and insurance. If the usual rent for a dormitory room is 400 Euro, that will leave me with 500 Euro a month, or 16.666 Euro a day.I am afraid that with this allowance I have to shell out some of my personal funds to afford a decent living condition.

May anyone advise on the possibility of getting a scholarship from the ILF on confirmation of admission? Does anyone here who has been admitted receive an offer to take the programme on scholarship? If so, how much?
thanks =]
thanks =]

Hi all!
I just had a look of the ilf ll.m. program and it seems to be very interesting.
I need to ask you some questions, if someone could be so kind to answer to me.
1) the deadline?
they say they have an enrolling system. But obviouly it's too late for me to send the application now for 2009/2010?
i should wait for next year :( ?
and in thi case can i send the application now?
2) the reference letters... no idea about that!
is this so important? i could ask to my former professors of the university, but i'm italian, and this gonna sound quite strange to them, because we don't have this kind of things.
3) TOEFL
i get a TOEFL with an high score (270 c.b.), but i got it in august 2004. they say nothing about it.
should i do it again?
Thanks to everyone will help me,
i'm very scared of this application process!!!!

Hi Fabribia,
with regard to your queries:
1) deadline? you should call them and ask whether there are some places left, If so, just send it and do not wait till next year. Please, note that they only accept 40 people per year, so should harry up.
2) Reference letters are of crucial importance. You should contact either to your professors or employeers and ask for a nice reference letter. It is highly important. Huge percentage of their decision will be based on your reference letters.
3) you should do the TOELF/IELTS again, since the validity is just for 2 years. Anyway they only require a 6.5, which is quite affordable.
I was rejected last week, so I guess you hace chances. I am going to UK, particularly to the Nottingham Law School.
Do not hesitate to contact me for further queries.
All the best and harry up with your application!

I forgot to say something Fabrifia: you said that you are italian and your professors are not used to write reference letters. I am from Spain and same happens, however I will tell you what I did. I just wrote the reference letter myself andthen I send a request to my professor. You have to make things easy to latin professors. Send a request email with a sample reference (made for you) attached. If you wish I can give you the ones that I used.Hope this helps./
