Anyone going to the Hague Academy of (Public) International Law 2007?

I take the liberty of posting this here as well, since there were so many posts about Leiden here.
My eyes are sore after hours of downloading and locating the texts that came available online to day. I had now idea it was that much reading upfront. Well, it's going to be fun also.
Anyone else going?

Will do. So far it seems like I´ll be extremely busy reading this stuff the next 27 days. The course material is available "here":http://www.ppl.nl/summercourses/
I think for the courses alone there are over 200 texts (books, articles, resolutions and judgments), but I haven´t found out how much of that is compulsory. Some of the texts, such as those in the course in the law of force, will be well known to most of you:
Franck, T.M.. Recourse to force : state action against threats and armed attacks ., 2002 [this is a book; books are not fulltext]
plinklet! peace palace linker
Gray, C.. International law and the use of force., 2004 [this is a book; books are not fulltext]
plinklet! peace palace linker
Guillaume, G.. Quel contrôle sur les mesures de sécurité collective?. Les métamorphoses de la sécurité collective : droit, pratique et enjeux stratégiques / Société française pour le droit international , 2005 , pp. 241-252 [download available]
plinklet! peace palace linker
Reisman, W.M.. Criteria for the lawful use of force in international law. The Yale journal of international law , 1985 , pp. 279-285 [check plinklet for fulltext]
plinklet! peace palace linker
Thouvenin, J.-M.. La Cour internationale de Justice et la sécurité collective. Les métamorphoses de la sécurité collective : droit, pratique et enjeux stratégiques / Société française pour le droit international , 2005 , pp. 109-120 [download available]
There is eight courses like this. In addition, eight seminars (with its own reading list) can be attended - and I plan to.
Good reading knowledge of French seems as a prerequisite. (Alas;)

hiya.
i'm going. man alive, there sure is a lot to read before-hand. & like you, i can't figure out how much is required, suggested, recommended, etc. they say everything is "recommended" (at least all the lists are recommended - it would have been helpful to have a proper course syllabus with notation of what is required to be read before the course/during the course and what is suggested further reading). ah well.

Cassis: The public or the private course?
Anyway, I just spoke to a researcher here in Oslo, who attended last year. He told me he read pretty much nothing before-hand and still found the course useful. But I guess I will try to read as much as I can.
I was so stupid that I didn't return the accommodation slip in time, so I'm trying to rent an appartment or a room. Not as easy as I would have thought.

The public course. I think it will be really great, not just for the course content, but also for meeting people from all over - people interested in some of the same issues. I'm from Canada, but living now in New York City. I don't have a place for sure yet either - iI am supposed to be able to stay with the friend of a good friend, but I'm not entirely sure it's on. I had accommodation through the Academy but I turned it down thinking I could stay with the friend (and pay rent to him). We'll see. Good luck with the apartment hunt!

Yeah, I'm really looking forward to it. The hunt is going badly so far, but at least I'm learning Dutch. Maybe I can take an LLM in Dutch landlord and tenant law with a speciality in transnational disputes.

Hello everyone!! I just want some advise. The registration form for the Summer Programme 2008 is now available. I'm not sure about how it is, so could you please tell me if there's an admission process and how does it works. Any other information will be highly appreciated.
Thanks.

well, I'm not sure what exactly your questions are, but the registration form is here: http://www.hagueacademy.nl/index.php?section=registration&point=17
Practical information, including eligibility criteria, can be found here: http://www.hagueacademy.nl/index.php?section=point&point=16
I believe there is some sort of admission process, but I have no idea of how it works. I think it's a good idea to apply as soon as possible.
I believe you should have some knowledge of international law before applying - otherwise you will waste your money.
Also, you should be able to follow advanced lectures in either English or French.
Maybe I'll see you there!

Thank you Humber. The payment for the fee is after the letter of acceptance?
Posted Nov 10, 2007 18:08
I believe so, yes. Unless they say otherwise on their website, that is.
I am sorry I have forgotten so much about this process, but I think it was really straightforward, at least compared to university admittance.

I applied for International Private law. How long have you been waiting the acceptance from the curatorium? Have you had a good time there last here?
Posted Nov 11, 2007 01:27
Thank you Humber. Likewise i sent an email to the Academy to be sure, so whe they reply I share the information with you, hope they reply soon. Mickynox, I have not applied yet because I want to know first what documentation I must submit and if there's an admission process or if anyone that fullfill the requirements can participate, etc, so at the moment I don't know how how long do you have to wait.

Have you received any information about the admission and the selection process? Thanks. See you in the Haugue.

Hi Mickynox!!! I haven't applied yet, but I'll do it in this week. I sent an email to the Academy and I asked them if there's a selection process. They told me that yes, there is a selection process. They answered me pretty fast.
