Practicing in Canada with foreign L.L.M

maybs87

Hello,

I am in my final year of a B.A. and I am starting to send out my applications to various law schools in Canada and in Europe.

I am interested in applying to the University of Wales, Prague Campus which is offering me acceptance to an L.L.M program with a B.A. in Humanities.

I am wondering what job prospects I could get from a British LLM if I do decide to come back to Canada after my studies. Will I be able to practice in Canada as a lawyer? If so, what would be the requirements I would need to satisfy in order to be called to the bar and if I would need to go back to school to take specified courses since I will not have an LLB?

Thanks!

For Canada, you'll need to submit an application to the NCA, but without a full/first law degree, they will probably recommend you take the full LLB/JD (or maybe a two year LLB/JD). I don't think an LLM will be enough to allow you to sit just the challenge exams.

If you want to practice in Canada, don't do an LLM over in Britain (especially somewhere obscure like the Uni of Wales Prague Campus ??!), do an LLB/JD in Canada.

Why not in the UK?
