HI there
I have a BA business law degree, two year LLB course, 1 year diploma in legal practise, and I an currently doing a two year traineeship in Scotland. Would I be eligible to sit to the New York Bar now as I am training to become a solicitor? Or would I have to wait until I am qualified? What If i was qualified in Scotland, would I have to do any other qualifications in England? Can you study at home alone for the NYC bar? What prepartions can help before the exam? I want to work in New York and would just like any advice and tips from anyone who knows more than me.
Thanks in advance .

I believe you are referring to the Bar for the State of New York, not the New York City Bar; aren't you?

This site should help answer at least some of your questions. Keep in mind that if you want to practice in NY, you will need to obtain work authority. Part of the benefit of a US LLM is that it allows you an OPT year in which you can work in a law related capacity in the US. Basically, you can apply for a 1yr work visa following your studies.

Yes New York bar exam.
I am really not all that keen on doing an LLM, I would rather work in London firm or in a law firm than go back and study for LLM. I am currently working as a solicitor, and it would feel like a backward step.
Thanks in advance, any help is much obliged.
