I have a question for the German law students. I would like to ask how many years it takes for a law student in Germany to obtain their LL.B. I have been told that it takes a minimum of 4 years and then 2 more years to take the First State Exam. Does this mean that it takes a minimum of 6 years to obtain the LL.B degree or to become a lawyer?
Moreover, does the LL.B from German Law Schools meet the "durational and substantial requirements" for a foreign student to qualify to take the NY bar after completing an LL.M in the US?
I was told that there were a few cases of current LL.M students that were not able to qualify to sit for the NY bar this July, because they exceeded the 4 year requirement that the NY Board of Bar Examiners has set for the international law students.
If that is the case, does this mean that any foreign educated law student that took more than 4 years to obtain their LL.B cannot be eligible to take the NY bar even though they have completed their LL.M in the US and complied with the rest of the requirements?
