I am considering the LLB programme in either queensland or Tasmania.. Anyone in the programmes?? Can u please offer me some insight into the courses? I know that Tasmania's ranking is way behind queensland... will it really have an impact when we graduate? or are both school as good actually? Queensland is so much more expensive also.... what would u choose if u were me??

Isn`t uni of tasmania a sandstone university in australia ? I thought that sandstone universities are generally well regarded?

it is a sandstone university by virtue of being oldest in the State - however, it standing within Australia isn't that great. Most people go for "Group of 8 University" in Australia - they are leaders in research. Can't go wrong with them.

In terms of employment, do UQ grads have a huge edge over UTAS grads, say in sydney or melbourne?

Queensland is a stronger Law School in terms of research output and the quality of its student body. However, as an undergraduate, it really depends on how well you do at Law School. An outstanding first class honours grad from Tasmania will sail into the top law firms in Melbourne, while a pass graduate from Queensland flips burgers while trying to a PLT placement.
If you want an idea of the relationship of each university to Australia's two major financial centres, Sydney and Melbourne, then because of proximity, Tasmanian grads tend to go to Melbourne, whereas Queensland grads tend to go to Sydney.
Gregor, with respect, I disagree with your comment. There is no substantial difference in practice between state acts and regulations in any of the four jurisdictions you mention. Practising lawyers work across all nine Australian jurisidictions on a daily basis.
