NYU@NUS Offer Received

bookcrazy

Today morning, by email, I was notified that an offer has been made and loaded on my admissions page. I had applied only to the NYU@NUS and not to the New York program. I have been offered USD 20,000 dean's award. I have to accept this by 22nd January. I am inclined to say no as the cost for this program (tution fee) after scholarship comes to the same as what I would have to pay to one of the London colleges. Therefore, I would rather see if I can manage the money for London. Do you think doing a Singapore program at this cost makes sense?

I also received the email regarding my decision this morning, and have also been awared a Dean's Award of USD 20,000. My questions are pretty much the same as bookcrazy's...Added to this is the fact that I'm more inclined towards a career in litigation in India...Does it make sense to accept it and pay the (not inconsiderable) non-refundable tuition deposit?

I have almost decided not to take the offer. However, I would like to know if it is possible to take up NUS alone without taking up NYU when you get this offer. Obviously, the scholarship will not be applicable then. I remember that the NYU@NUS brochure / web page said somewhere that you need not apply to NUS separately. In that case, due to financial constraints, if I want to take up NUS, is it possible?

$ 20,000 is a nice scholarship. However, the cost of living in New York is extremely high so I am not sure that it will be that significant after all. I remember working there as an intern...everything is soooo expensive!!! Also, take into account that it is practically impossible to find a job in the US market (for LLMs and newly qualified JDs) these days, so your ROI doesn't look so good at the moment...

I'm aware of the fact that costs of living in New York are extremely high. Therefore, is total estimate available on the website for the NYU@NUS program a realistic figure?

20,000 USD seems farly generous, considering that most UK/London colleges are cash-strapped due to grant cuts...

I'm not looking at a job in the US market immediately, although the option of sitting for the NY Bar is a compelling one. Any idea as to how many of these Dean's Awards are given out, for study at NYU or NYU@NUS?

no i am afraid. this is a joint course so if u havent applied for nus separately u can't just take NUS degree and leave the NYU degree. hope that helped. it is also written on the offer letter that u have to withdraw ur applications from other colleges if one accepts this offer. do one really have to withdraw all their applications from other universities? i am waiting for harvard, NYU,columbia, Michigan results to come out. if for example i accept this offer will i still be considered for the NYU LLM program or they will not consider me as i have already taken up this course. it is also stated on the offer letter that i have the option of studying either in singapore or ny but the website only talks of studying in singapore.... i have a confusion regarding this.... do tell me when u accept this offer... and u are from which country?
i personally don't think that all the faculty can visit singapore which if is the case, we will be at a complete loss if the best faculty doesn't come to teach us. does all the professors come here to teach or only some of them? how do we know if we who all are coming and what courses can we select in asian and business laws and trade law?

Congrats on getting an offer from NYU@NUS.

Any idea if they are conducting an orientation program in Delhi this year for the offer holders?

Do you think it is worth leaving a job in a big 4 auditing firm (with scope for promotion and rise in a few months) for an NYU LLM at this point of time
