Another question: did you guys already know how to speak Japanese before you even applied? I have just bought myself CDs and books to help me with the language.
Posted Feb 07, 2011 01:37
Hi, does Kyushu notify you if your application was not successful?
Posted Feb 07, 2011 03:43
@Lei: It's always a better idea to learn Japanese, as much as you can, before coming to Japan because people who can understand English are almost rare. It's not an issue on campus since everyone can but outside campus it's a different world altogether.
I still don't speak any Japanese, which makes it difficult for me at times to communicate effectively. Edouard can speak decent amount of Japanese, which really helps all of us a lot :)

@Walt: I, personally, don't know anyone whose application was rejected by Kyushu University but since they are very much process oriented in their approach, I don't see any reason why they would not notify to the unsuccessful candidates. Ideally they should.

Hi guys.....I applied to Kyushu program...but haven't recieve any info...that mean I have been unsuccesful??....or I should not be discouraged already??.....by the way congrats lei!!!!

Hi jespinosa,
I don't think you should be discouraged. It's still very early. Mine was only a provisional acceptance and I still have to do and submit other documents. Plus, I read the application guidelines again. It says there that they notify the successful applications of their slots in the program in march or early april. I have yet to hope for mine then.
Let's all keep the faith. =)
and thank you, jacques. =)

Has anybody heard anything from admissions this week?
Posted Feb 09, 2011 19:56
Nope, I still haven't heard anything. I wrote that I could only do the program if I can receive a scholarship, and since Lei (congrats, by the way!) has already heard back, I'm guessing I have been rejected.
It's a shame!

@Forventos, i think only the people from the Japanese government scholarship contact applicants as early as this month. I heard there are other scholarships available and, according to Edouard, the admissions office will offer you other scholarships if you don't get the Mombusho one.
I don't think anyone has had a final confirmation/acceptance this early though so it's safe to say all are still in the running for the program. I hope you'd get a confirmation in March/april, as well as a scholarship offer.

Hi lei,
Are all of the Japanese Government Scholarship recipients chosen at this point? Do they offer full scholarships+stipends apart from the JGS? Thanks!

Thanks,Lei. Actually I am doing my master degree in IBL at NUS. And I would like to spend my years studies of LLD in Japan which encouraged me to submit my application stuff. And I haven't heard from the office yet. Making me feel so upset.
And I couldn't do an extra master since I cannot afford the tuition as well as the living expense.
Is the information above correct? Where did U get it. Appreciate!!!!!!
And by the way, take care, buddy.

Ok,then.
I just noticed that if you reject confirmation from Kyushu LLM, then, the granted one will be cancelled. But that's Kyushu situation, I don't know where you stand, but you are definitely gonna get it, I'm sure.

I guess it depends on how you got the Monbusho, through a university or by yourself? If you got it by yourself, there should be a possibility to transfer (however, as you may already know, Japanese are not famous for their flexibility...). If the University directly sponsored your application, I don't see how you could transfer then.
Regarding the other scholarship, I know only one student who got it (but haven't asked to all!) and only after being refused the Monbusho so she got the provisional acceptance letter early february as everybody else I think.
Good luck to all of you!

So basically, if we haven't heard now...!
Anyone know of an alternative program in Japan, with the deadline still open? Or do Kyushu do any other interesting graduate programs?
I have to start moving fast!!! :-O
