Hi everyone!
I would like to know if anyone has tips regarding this matter. I have been searching for information on the internet, but there are lots of possibilities and I'm kind of lost...
For sure I would like to live in a place which is walking distance from the campus and which has a nice cost-benefit. I guess that sharing an apartment with other(s) student(s) would be a nice experience.
Looking forward to see you all in May in Singapore,
Eduardo

Hi Eduardo,
What's your thoughts on Graduate Resident of NUS?
According to my search, I think Evans Lodge is best option.

Hello Eduardo,
From what I've heard Evan's Lodge is the nearset option to the university. Although I've been told that it is a little bit overcroweded and the facilities are small. A friend of mine who is currently at NYU@NUS told me that the best option, in his opinion, was to hire a real estate agent to search for accomodation.
Hope this helps.
Regards,
Miguel

Hi guys!
Unfortunatelly I don't know anyone who is living or who has lived in one of these places. So, the information I have are the ones provided by the internet, which may not be 100% reliable. Thus, the more information we can get from students that personally know the places, the better.
Another option that seems to be nice is the College Green, which is ideal for single students like me and is situated within 15 minutes walking distance from the school.
Let's keep in touch!
Regards,
Eduardo

I'm a Singaporean Local who did my undergrad at nus. Evan Lodge is bull crap, don't bother. Its actually an old university hostel which NUS has since parted company with and is now used as a private hall. My personal opinion is that if you're opting for university accomodation, get Prince George Park. I used to live there and the apartments are nice. Further, there's I think 2 Cafeterias within 5 mins walk and a provision shop nearby for late night groceries. There's also a free shuttle bus to the Bukit Timah Campus - i.e. law school - from PGP. The ride should be around 20-25 mins tops, depending on traffic.
One thing you should know about getting accomodation near the Bukit Timah area is that the place where the law school is, isn't the most convenient place in Singapore. The Law School is actually pretty secluded, tucked away next to a nature reserve. So if you choose to live near the law school via private accomodation, be prepared to give up conveniences, such as nearby shops, food etc.

I have been reading the reviews on Evans Lodge and it just does not seem appealing!!
I would prefer living in one of the campus residential facilities for like a month (if they provide such an option) till i am a bit more familiar with the place and after that shift into an appartment with fellow students. But i guess, there is still some time before we have to gear up for 'residence hunting'...

I'll arrive on april 29th or 30th.
I guess first we should know how many students in our program are interested in sharing apartments, check whether our needs and budgets match, and then split the members according to the needs and budgets.
Regards!

Gregor! you are my man then. Here are a few queries:
(a) is there acco available in studio apartments, independent houses for around S$1000 in around the campus?
(b) what are the areas near campus where one can look for acco without having to use public transport?
(c) what are the other housing options available to students?
(d) if 3 people share a 3 bedroom house - is S$800-1000 a fair estimate of the monthly expenditure on stay?
Thanks in advance,

hey there!
I have tried to help you with your queries below but I would suggest you have a look at www.propertyguru.com.sg as there are thousand of listings on apartments and, as there are multiple listings, there is transparency in terms of prices.
Gregor! you are my man then. Here are a few queries:
(a) is there acco available in studio apartments, independent houses for around S$1000 in around the campus?
as far as I am aware, yes but most students rent a 3 to 4 bedroom apartment/condominium and split the rent with 2 to 3 other students.
(b) what are the areas near campus where one can look for acco without having to use public transport?
any apartment near walking distance to the botanical gardens (the law faculty is beside the botanical gardens) would be walking distance to the botanical gardens. Singapore is quite small and transport is convenient. As the school is located near the city area, rent gets quite high around the area.
(c) what are the other housing options available to students?
you can go with the housing recommended by NUS (I am not sure if they are good as I have not seen them myself) or go through a real estate agent. If the latter, propertyguru.com.sg would be handy too.
(d) if 3 people share a 3 bedroom house - is S$800-1000 a fair estimate of the monthly expenditure on stay?
Yes, it sounds reasonable. One will be able to get a 3 bedroom condominium with $3,000 rent. However, the area near the law school may command a higher rent....
Thanks in advance,

Hi, if honestly propertyguru a bit outdated also they have a lot of paid listings from agents. I would recommend - keylocation.sg they have a killer-feature where you can search condos by commuting time, i.e. don't have to keep checking Google Directions over and over.
