Anyone applied for the International Business Law LLM?

aplli1

Hi guys,

I have applied for the International Business Law programme. I wondered if anyone else on here has applied and if so, would you like to correspond throughout the application process?

Would be good to hear how good everyone else feels at this point!

Hi guys,

Don't count me in as yet..I haven't received my offer from NUS yet! I called them up this morning and was reassured that they are still offering places so I guess it's a matter of waiting.

I have a job lined up in New York if NUS doesn't work out so I guess it won't be a disaster if I'm not accepted.

Congratulations to both of you for getting in though, what an achievement! In the meantime please keep your fingers crossed for some of us!

To students who have been admitted into the IBL programme:

We recognise that you may have questions on teaching and living arrangements in Shanghai. Please review our website again for teaching details - http://law.nus.edu.sg/prospective/postgrad/coursework/llm_ibl.htm.

As for living arrangements, you will have a choice of staying either at the student residence at our partner university (ECUPL), or staying by yourselves in a nearby private apartment. Of course, the costs for the latter would be higher. The on-campus residence is, of course, very convenient and costs very little, though not very luxurious.

In Singapore, there is the choice of staying at Evans Lodge, a residence near our campus. Living costs are higher in Singapore than Shanghai, so the cost of a room at Evans Lodge is in the range of S$300 to S$600 per month, depending on whether it is single or twin-sharing, and whether air-conditioned or otherwise. Evans Lodge is also rather old, so you can opt for private accommodation if you like. However, note that for a 2-month stay, private accomodation may come at a much higher cost, particularly if you want to be near the Bukit Timah campus. Hence, we would recommend Evans Lodge (more information on Evans Lodge will be sent to you with the official Letter of Offer).

To give you an idea of what our current IBL students did: all of them stayed at Evans Lodge for the Singapore segment of the course, and about 90% of them are at the ECUPL student residence in Shanghai. The remaining 10% have opted to stay in private apartments in Shanghai near ECUPL.

I would say that you should not worry about all this - we will provide you with adequate information on accommodation in Shanghai once we meet you in Singapore. It will be easier for us to give you the full details then and to explain the various options available to you.

In the meantime, we have also arranged for our current students to advise you if you have any questions. Best to hear it directly from them! So, if any of you want to contact them, please write to me and I will supply you with their contact details. Also, if you have any questions on the academic curriculum, please write to me.

For those of you who have been offered both the IBL and the regular 10-month LLM in Singapore, you may also want to write me directly so that I can advise you on their relative strengths. It is difficult for me to provide customised information on a public forum such as this.

I look forward to hearing from you. In addition, we hope to have you join us at NUS, whichever of our programmes you choose!

Sincerely
Dr Alan Tan

Hey Nita,

I have just checked the private housing market in Shanghai. Comared to Europe it is really cheap: 80 square metres in a nice sourrounding will cost you about 450 US $.

But I am also confused and still hestitating. The only few posts at llm-guide as well as the statement of appli according to the open places in our programme make me guess, NUS wasn´t able to launch this new master.... ?!

Dear Freddy, I have just posted a message on accommodation matters.

On your question on the few posts, there are currently 38 students in the current batch of IBL students who are in Shanghai. We are targetting 50 for this coming year, with a diversity of nationalities (I can assure you we will have more than 4 students! :))

So the programme is well and truly launched, and growing from strength to strength.

Hi guys,

Good news..I have received a conditional offer for the IBL programme! I am fairly confident that I will satisfy the conditions of my acceptance so hopefully I'll see you all in the summer.

I'm not sure but has everyone exchanged emails etc yet? I promise I'm not overbearing just think it would be good to know more about people we'll be spending the next 10 months with :)

Anyone keen on this or any form of contact for that matter?

Hi. I'm Matteo from Italy. I received a conditional offer as well... I'm excited about being eventually part of the program but honestly I would like to exchange some information with people doing the LLM now or in the last years...just to know which position they have after it...law practice in Asia or MNE etc etc...

Hi guys,

In the spirit of networking I have created a Facebook group for IBL students.

http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=2300348199&ref=mf

As Rshivkar mentioned above there already is a NUS group but as our course is extra special (!) I think our experiences warrant the creation of our own exclusive group :)

Let's get talking about the excitement, anxieties, downright fear that we may have over the next few months...

If the link doesn't work just group search NUS International Business Law .
