Why Choose Temple Law for Your LL.M.?
Our LL.M. program is one of the longest running in the U.S., with alumni around the world. U.S. News and World Report ranks Temple Law as a top law school, particularly in trial advocacy, legal writing, healthcare law and international law. Courses within our specialty rankings are popular with our international students.
We welcome:
- Recent law graduates
- International attorneys
- Legal academics, counsel, and government officials
- Any student who has earned a first degree in law
The LL.M. degree for Foreign-Trained Lawyers is the equivalent of what other schools refer to as a “General” or “Traditional” LL.M. or an “LL.M. in American Law.” It is a Master’s level degree for students who have earned their first degree in law.
The Faculty
Our faculty devotes uncommon attention supporting each student’s academic and professional growth, understanding that each student is unique. The result is a community of students, faculty, and alumni in which individuals and relationships are highly valued, forming a community of common purpose that will remain with you long after graduation. Over half of Temple Law’s faculty have taught at Temple’s Rome and Tokyo campuses, as well as in Beijing and other countries, demonstrating their global interests and commitment to the needs of international students.
Alumni
Our LLM alumni are an important part of the Temple Law family. Please follow us on LinkedIn and Facebook. Tuition and Fees
Tuition and Costs
Students studying fewer than nine credits per semester are considered part-time and thus pay by credit. Students who are full-time pay a fixed rate for the year. In addition to tuition, please also budget for living expenses in the Philadelphia area.
In June of each year, the Temple University trustees establish the tuition rates for the academic year which begins in mid-August. The cost of education at Temple Law is very reasonable, especially considering the quality of education and the many opportunities available at Temple.
2024-25 Pennsylvania Residents AND Out-of-State Residents
Full-time: $36,000
Part-time per credit hour: $1,638
Financial Aid
Temple Law offers partial tuition scholarships based on need and merit. The amount of any award offered will only be indicated after a final admissions decision has been made. Even without financial aid, Temple’s LL.M. tuition is extremely competitive when compared to the tuition at many other U.S. law schools. Please visit our Financial Aid for Graduate Students page for more information.
Location
Temple Law is located in Philadelphia, the sixth-largest city in the U.S., conveniently located between New York City and Washington, DC. The cost of living in Philadelphia is lower than that of other East Coast cities, allowing students to live affordably in a large city while pursuing an excellent education and building a network.
Philadelphia is a UNESCO World Heritage City and was named one of the top 25 cities to visit in the World for 2020 by National Geographic. Many young professionals flock from New York to Philadelphia. We believe that you, too, will fall in love with Philadelphia.
In addition, LL.M. students may also be able to study abroad at our Rome or Tokyo campuses as part of their degree.
Accommodation
A limited amount of housing for graduate students is available, although most LL.M. students live in nearby private, off-campus housing. If you are looking to meet potential roommates, please contact our office. Please also visit the Temple University Housing Office website for other housing options.
Student Life
Temple Law has a very strong sense of community. Our LL.M. students actively take part in many aspects of law school student life, including participating in student organizations, events, and other social activities, forming tight bonds with other LL.M. and J.D. students and experiencing university life fully.
The Office of Graduate and International Programs hosts several social events throughout the year, including happy hours, networking receptions at Temple and in partnership with other international organizations in Philadelphia, tea tasting lessons, and informal and formal meals. Temple Law’s International Law Society and other student groups also host events and offer peer resources for international students.
Summer Program
Temple has a campus in Rome, Italy situated on the Tiber River in the historic heart of Rome. Eligible students may attend courses in Rome, Italy for 4 weeks in the summer abroad program with credits that can be applied to an LL.M. Students can even start their LL.M. directly in Italy by spending Summer learning U.S. and international law at our Rome campus!
Pre-LLM Course
LL.M. Orientation
