I wrote a brief dissertation on the socio-legal implications of the growing international demand in textile markets for polyester suits and socks, including several recommendations on how to deal with the problem through international regulatory reform.

Are you guys serious? I thought the personal statement was literally supposed to be about something personal. I read the Anna Ivey book on "how to get into law school" and she said essays should be witty, personal and show the reader something that can't be seen from other parts of the application such as your cv and academic references. Thanks for sharing your topics, you've made me re-think my essay!

Yes, we are.
Please look through the Harvard's instructions for the 06-07 LLM class application materials.

Hi Ursula,
is the book you mentioned for undergraduates only? With respect to graduate studies I have not seen any law school which did not want an applicant to provide something research oriented in the personal statement. At least for my person, I did not write something witty or anything like that, but tried to present my former experiences, which led to the wish to study in the US, and described a research project I wanted to work on. Until now, this has worked perfectly well.
Where are you from? If you are from Germany (or if you can read German), you should have a look at the LL.M. brochure of the Deutsche Akademische Auslandsdienst (DAAD), it is very useful.
Good luck with your applications.

we are referring to the instructions when applying to the LL.M program...There were two parts for the statement: the personal statement per se, and an analysis of a certain topic, a theotretical framework, etc...

i think im out of my league!! I wrote about estoppel! I wrote about the existence of a cause of action with promissory estoppel in the USA, (something which doesnt officially exist in Ireland) but which in fact may exist through EU law and Direct effect in particular. it was cut and pasted from a 5000 word paper i had written in college. im not overly concerned about harvard- not too much point for me! got into Duke and cornell anyway

Any further news on what will be the exact date for the responses?
