But what's the difference between the Yale PhD and the Yale SJD then (apart from the candidate's country of origin)? I always thought an SJD is more or less the same as a PhD?

I wrote to Gordon Silverstein, who is heading up Yale's PHD program in law, with some of these same questions. If you all would not mind, I think it would be useful to post his replies. I'm a U.S. educated J.D. -but his comments helped me a lot to understand the interplay that will be existing between the two programs. To me, it seems as if what they have wisely done is take their existing JSD model, use it as the foundation, and build from there, an even greater program-until eventually-what I think you will see, will be a blurring of the lines, if anyone wants more info on what he wrote to me, feel free to ask and I'll provide his responses to my questions.
