Yale

Amador

I know that Yale is for teaching career, however, I want to know how much dificult is to enter and what are most important things that Yale look for. For example: grades, publications, extra curricular activities, a good statement, working experience, your academic interests (interesting for the school), Toefl score, etc.

It will be very useful if someone can help me.

Thanks a lot,

Amador (Chile).

Hi Amador. I shall begin my studies at Yale in August, and I'm glad to help you. Being admitted to Yale is quite difficult. Intake is c. 25 and this year there were approximately 800 applicants (or so the rumour goes). All the things you mentioned are important: Yale (and other law schools, too) will make an overall assessment of each applicant. Grades do matter, but so does publications, well-written essays, letters of recommendation, and so on. Bear in mind that Yale is very strong on variety of subjects: legal history, legal philosophy, comparative law, corporations, law and economics etc. What you should do in your essays is to let them know why you are interested in that specific subject you want to concentrate on, and how studying at Yale will help you to achieve your objective. As far as TOEFL is concerned, the minimum is 250, but generally accepted candidates have much higher score. As far as I can tell, however, your English is definitely good enough, so don't worry too much about TOEFL. Yale also strives for regional diversity, so actually you're competing with other South-American applicants. I believe they will accept 3-7 people from your continent. It's a tough competition, but if you aspire to be a teacher of law, give it a try. I have yet to hear someone complaining that Yale Law School was a disappointing experience:) Best of luck. -Toni-

I am not sure about international trade law at Yale. However, I believe Yale Law does have great faculty in the field of environmental law and adlaw.

Professor Daniel Esty is the Hillhouse Professor of Environmental Law and Policy, with appointments in both Yale Law School and the Yale School of Forestry & Environmental Studies, also the Director of the Yale Center for Environmental Law and Policy. I think he would a good academic advisor for Amador.

Also, Professor Susan Rose-Ackerman is a well-known Administrative Law scholar and a very nice person:)

Good luck:)

Do you know personally Prof. Susan Rose-Ackerman? Her work on corruption is very interesting.

Anyone that applied to Yale:

How long was your scholarly research agenda?

How many students from Africa do they accept?
