I don't think they count. But after all - do you really need them? Anyway, you could make it more professional by putting all references at the end. BTW, what is the topic of your A-part essay?

You don't need to footnote your essay. If you're referring to a certain scholar, just refer to him by name. Footnoting the essay might make you look like a gunner, it's quite unnecessary.

actually i am using the footnotes to refer to articles and to websites where you can fin cases/treaties I am quoting.
there is no substantial information and it's just to show that i do not quote legal sources i have not checked by myself
for 900 wors, i have 7 footnotes...
