Do you believe that reasonable footnotes (reference to articles, websites, etc.) count within the word limit of the legal essays you need to write for certain LLM's (in particular Harvard)??

I don't think they count. But after all - do you really need them? Anyway, you could make it more professional by putting all references at the end. BTW, what is the topic of your A-part essay?

You don't need to footnote your essay. If you're referring to a certain scholar, just refer to him by name. Footnoting the essay might make you look like a gunner, it's quite unnecessary.

I think footnotes do not count. But I agree with Toni: maybe by adding a lot of footnotes you are overloading your essay...

actually i am using the footnotes to refer to articles and to websites where you can fin cases/treaties I am quoting.
there is no substantial information and it's just to show that i do not quote legal sources i have not checked by myself
for 900 wors, i have 7 footnotes...

what is a "gunner"
