Krisztian do you have any idea about the number of LLm students that go to Virginia every year?
Posted Apr 06, 2006 23:46
Please, help, I been accepted to Virginia, Northwestern, Duke and Cornel. Do you think Virginia is the best choice?
Posted Apr 07, 2006 02:50
I heard that the number of Virginia's LLm students was small (about 40) and they could become friends easily.

Thanks K, does anybody know if Charlottsville is a nice place to live?

To Cp: you can reason as follows. Of the schools you mentioned, Virginia is the highest ranked. Unless the others can offer you something that Virginia can not, you should choose it. You should not follow rankings blindly, but on the other hand, you shouldn't choose less prestigious school unless there's a reason. Also think hard what you really want to study in the US. Then see faculty profiles at each school, and course offerings. Try to find out which schools fits best with your study objective. If you are not sure what you want to do, choose UVA.

To cp:
As you may be aware, you can get much information about Charlottesville on the website of Virginia.

To tmalmine and K: thank you very much for the info. I know that Virginia is the better university of the 4 in the ranking but I have read here that a lot of people give a lot of importance to the Ivy League universities, and Cornell is one of those. The other important point to consider is that Chicago is a big city where the experience would be completely diferent from being in Charlottesville, so Northwestern is another interesting option. But as you said, I think I should choose Virginia.
Anyway, what are your plans?

it's just werid that I didn't receive Cornell's admission till today, while Virginia never gives me a deadline for deposit.
Posted Apr 07, 2006 20:42
I received Cornell´s acceptance letter yesterday and Virginia may not give you a deadline to pay the deposit because you might have asked for financial assistance and they don´t ask you to pay the deposit until they don´t inform you wether they give you a scholarship or not
Posted Apr 07, 2006 20:48
yeah exactly. I think Cornell is inefficient and it does not tell you that you have been admitted if you don't ask. I just don't understand why it would take Virginia so long to determine the financial aid thing. It's April 8 already...many deadlines ahead...
Posted Apr 07, 2006 20:54
This is the answer to my email from Virginia: "Because you are awaiting a decision from us regarding financial aid, we have not set a new deposit deadline for you. We expect to be completing our financial aid decisions within the next two or three weeks. At that time we will let you know if we can offer you aid, and if we can, how much -- and we will give you a deposit deadline at that time. "
This is the reason why they don t give you a deadline

To cp: I've not made the final decision, but maybe I'll go to Virginia as well.
Posted Apr 11, 2006 20:53
to K: which other options do you have?
Posted Apr 12, 2006 12:57
To cp: Cornell. Considering the ranking of USNews, location and what I heard from the graduate from Virginia, I prefer Virginia. In addition, I am currently considering deferral due to family matters.
