VISAS for Canadians?

This is a question for any Canadians out there ... the US consulate phone numbers refuse to let you speak to a live person (unless you pay some astronomical amount per minute) and urge you to review its website. I just want to confirm that we don't actually have to apply for a VISA and all that needs to be done once we receive the I-20 from the school is to pay the SEVIS fee. Then, once we enter the US, we present our I-20, SEVIS fee receipt and passport at the border and request F-1 Status. Can anyone confirm this?

I emailed the people at Georgetown about this some time ago and that is what I was told.

Unfortunately I've deleted the email, otherwise I would post it...
